Sure, it's a choice to take their first hit, but these drugs are VERY addicting and doctors should really, REALLY be more careful when prescribing them. From what I know about people who are prescribed oxy, doctors sometimes prescribe these for almost anything even when a much weaker pain killer like hydrocodone (even at a small dose like 5-10 mg) would work fine and is less addicting.
If addiction was rational, it wouldn't exist. At least not in the extent that it does.
If you're going to be an addict, don't start young. The reason it's so hard to get off it if you started in your teens is because your brain chemistry didn't develop properly. Replacing coping mechanisms with drugs means that you don't really have any and that's why it's so hard to get off it and stay off it.

About 2 years ago my sickel cell anemia pain episodes got really bad, so my doctor gave me oxycodone pills. Those pills are sooo strong that I had to stay in bed all day, completely out of this world. I was glad that I was't in any pain but being high all day, not being sure if what was going on around me was real or not was the worst feeling ever! Fortunately I got better and I don't have to take those horrible pills anymore!

I was glad that I was't in any pain but being high all day, not being sure if what was going on around me was real or not was the worst feeling ever! Fortunately I got better and I don't have to take those horrible pills anymore!
