  • Thats going to be some good eaten...... nice fishing :D

  • @Johnstonwsoccer8 Yes, they tasted very good. We'll be getting more soon. Thanks!

  • they are so ugly but they actually taste good.

  • @RiverMonsters242 Very true....they do taste good! Thanks!

  • you should make a video on how to fillet and cook them.

  • @RiverMonsters242 Check out Thundermist fishing tips site and you'll find a video on how to clean bullheads. We haven't made a video on cooking them yet but perhaps some day. Good fishing!

  • We slaughter bullheads in WI on nightcrawlers and chicken livers. We personally use a simple split shot sinker with a bait keeper or circle hook about a foot below it most commonly. Sometimes a colorful floating jig if we need it higher off the bottom.

Delicious in the frying pan or the smoker. Great fish to get kids used to deboning while they eat as they are so easy to find and remove the bones on.

  • @hpiguy Glad to hear you are catching plenty of catfish in WI and thanks for taking time to write to us and share your tips with us! Until next time good luck and good fishing!

  • great video that is like a rig of lot of us southern state fishermen use, even for big bluegill and shellcrackers. i use it alot on the tennessee river for big catfish. keep on fishing brother

  • @bigreese81 It's a simple rig that works great for many fish. Thanks for watching & good fishing to you!

  • @bigreese81 Glad you enjoyed the video and great to hear from you in Tennessee!

Until next time good luck and good fishing!

  • I have caught some nice sized bullheads using shrimp. I didn't know they would bite worms. Thanks!

  • @ppdrawings Thanks for sharing your story with us and glad you enjoyed the video. Worms will catch you plenty of catfish so good luck & good fishing!

  • Great video man. I love bullhead fishing in the spring. Couple of questions:

    1. Any other good baits?

    2. Best way to cook them?

    3. Any other tips or tricks?

    4. Where is this?

  • @lavalolz Best all around bait for bullheads is worms. Corn & small pieces of cut bait will work to some degree. Try pan frying, ovened & on the grill. Watch your rod tip for the slightest bites - keep the rod tip low (less wind). Use a light or medium rod that will allow easy bending to detect bites. Keep the line tight. This video was taken on the Welland River near Welland Ontario. Thanks for your inquiry & good luck!

  • And like i said before its all "O yae im catching 1-2lb. catfish" and all of a sudden thud thud thud boom...big catfish gone, rod gone... but nice video iliked it

  • @DimitrovTrickShotZz Glad you liked the video. Good fishing to you!

  • dont use the ground as a rod holder becouse if it is a at least 8lb. catfish

    it will pull it in.

  • @DimitrovTrickShotZz You're right about that...a big fish will pull it in. Thanks

  • i watched this video so i can learn bullhead catfish and use them 4 bait

  • @DimitrovTrickShotZz That's great. Thanks!

  • @thundermistlures we have black bull heads in maryland they seem to be alot larger than the ones you are catching in this video i guess its because its further south but we can only catch them in may and early june. would these methods work into mid summer?

  • @Cmadden52 Nice to hear form you and these methods will work great for you in eh summer as well as in the spring. Our bullheads do get bigger than this as well, but on that day, they were all smaller - but still a lot of fun! Good luck this year with the black bullheads - hope you catch plenty :)

  • @Cmadden52 This method will work throughout the summer as well. Bullheads are harder to catch in the summer as there is an abundance of food available to them. With our experience, you will still catch them but not as quickly nor the numbers as compared to springtime. Thanks for writing & good fishing!

  • catfish tates good..

  • @wakchoo We agree...and there are many ways to prepare them. Happy eating!

  • Use bread it works great

  • @Klayski Thanks for sharing - good luck on the water and all the best in 2012!

  • best flathead bait ever!

  • @tylerblaepennington We have heard of bullheads being used for flathead bait. Thanks for writing us & good luck on the water!

  • @thundermistlures do u think u could made a flathead video useing them?

  • @tylerblaepennington In our area, flatheads do not exist. If we get an opportunity to fish down south we may make a video on flatheads. Thanks!

  • I like to use lead jig heads as hooks, it helps prevent bullheads from swallowing the hook, and you don't have to use any weights.

  • @TonyInTopeka That's a great tip! Thanks for sharing & good fishing to you!

  • U know what else gives a few good bites and a tug...

  • hey man great job!!!! check out my channel and i will send u 1 of my bullheadd videos

  • @outdoorkid77 i also wanted to know what time of day do u usually fish for them?

  • @outdoorkid77 Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking time to write! We'll have to check out your channel.

    Thanks.

  • @thundermistlures Kk, thanx

  • thanks video .... i live in west virginia i fishing in Burnsville Lake 3 days ago :)) i have 58 catfishs :)) haha i use bullhead too

  • @MyApoLoGize90 Great to hear from you in West Virginia and thanks for sharing you day on the water with us - sounds like you had a fantastic day!

  • @thundermistlures tks :D

  • What I absolutely love about bullhead fishing is once they are located, you can pretty much catch the whole school. Those schools are usually plentiful so this is a fantastic way to get kids into fishing. Ive spent many days enjoying some light action gear bullhead fishing and had a blast. Looking forward to catching some to eat next time I go fishing! Great video by the way!

  • @wiredhatred Glad you enjoyed the video and nice to hear you like to fish for bullheads - they can be a lot of fun!

  • how do u get those worms? i gathered up 300 night crawlers, ph level raised up n killed them all....

  • @twirap These worms can be found in any back yard compost pile. They work great!

  • How big do your bullheads get? We have three different species here, the biggest gets to be about one pound or so. I have caught them, but I don't like to touch them. They are so much more slimey than other catfish. LOL

  • @blueandsilverfan We have 3 species - brown,black & yellow. The brown is the largest up to 1.5 lb.Thanks!

  • Why do you catch bullheads on purpose? Are you using them for flathead bait or something? Do you guys not have channel cats? Channels are much better for eating than a bullhead. Bullheads make great bait for flatheads, in fact, live bullheads are probably the best bait you can get for big flatheads, much better than live perch. Do you actually eat them? We have a few different species of bullhead in TX, they are considered a rough fish here.

  • @blueandsilverfan Thanks for writing in and sharing your tips with us. Bullheads are actual very good to eat. Try them on the grill and baste them with your favorite oil & lemon juice mix - they are actually very tasty.

We have channel cats here in Ontario and take a look at our you tube channel as we have a few channel cats videos and give plenty of tips. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to use bullheads for bait but it sounds like it would be a great bait to use!

  • i went out fishing today at a river trying to catch some bullheads, it was my first time fishing 6 hours later still nothing. I was using calamari for my bait, and casting my line out to about half way across the river, the water is not very high so i wasn't around a lake, bay just on the side, any tips mate?

  • @Venthoz At this time of year in our area, bullheads are harder to catch. Calamari is not a good bait for bullheads. We find that worms are the best bait - especially the red worms found in manure piles. Try also at night which will increase your chances. Look for stained water rather than crystal clear. Good luck!

  • @thundermistlures i use fresh choped up bluegill in a small pond and they just attach it like crazy any other bait beasides worms i should look into?

  • @housewirth1 Worms are great bait. Sometimes they will take corn as well. Thanks & good fishing!

  • @thundermistlures thanks

  • @Venthoz go to a local pond if you have one take a jig and a canadian nightcrawler or some shrimp adn just let it sit on the bottom it works every time for me

  • Great video. i normally have trouble with bullheads swallowing my hooks. is there something i can do to hook em in the mouths more?

  • @patruhe1 Try larger J hooks & set the hook as soon as you suspect a bite. Always have the sinker below the hook & keep the leader line 4-6" long. This should help. Thanks!

  • @thundermistlures What do u mean compost pile worms? Where do u get them/ find theM? Also, got any tips on how to fish a river with really high water level? Where do the catfish usually hang out in those conditions? Nice video!

  • @KobeConfidence You can find these worms in a compost pile or even a manure pile. They are also in piles of old leaves. If you know someone who has a back yard compost pile, they will have these worms in there.

If you are fishing a river with very high water, look for a bend in the river or look for an area where the river forms a bay - fish those areas for best results.

Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for tuning in!

  • @thundermistlures Okay cool thanks man. This last winter he had a really wet year and everythings water level is so high! The water level is still way higher now in fall than it was ever during the spring 2 years ago! A couple years ago I'd wear waders and walk in about waist water to get to some islands. The other side of the islands is a straight drop off and really deep for the tiny river. I caught about a 14' cat fish there. This year though walking in the water wasn't an option!

  • @patruhe1 larger hooks!

  • Great video guys! I have been wanting to catch a small bullhead (3-7inches) for my native fish tank but I have trouble detecting the bites with a heavy weight and When I use a lighter weight all I catch is bluegill! Any tips?

  • @Allaroundstuff Try fishing at night in the dark as bluegills should stop feeding. Make sure the bait is on bottom & your light sinker is ok. Thanks!

  • @thundermistlures thanks for the tip! im also going to try bigger hooks to prevent the bluegill from getting hooked.

  • How come you guys haven't uploaded anything recently?

  • @ModelCarMan14 ...our last upload was about 2 weeks ago....our web master is on a 3 week vacation, so once he returns, we'll be uploading more videos.

thanks for tuning in to our videos and for taking time to write to us, but stay tuned, there are more videos coming :)

  • does chicken liver work with these? ive caught them on worms and corn before, but i was wondering if it would work just as well.

  • Can you send me a live small bull head? PLEEZ!

  • @morewood99 Gloves are always a good safety precaution. We have handled hundreds of catfish & feel comfortable not wearing them. Thanks!

  • do u have to wear a glove

  • @fishing3464 You don't have to wear gloves. Just be carefull when handling them. Good fishing!

  • wow amazing! where in the world are you catching cats that rapidly!?

  • @thewalk420 Glad you enjoyed the video and it was literally one after anohter that day - we were fishing in the Welland River, in Wellandport Ontario.

Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water.

  • @MrPokemonfan231 Glad you enjoyed the tips and hope you have a great day on the water with your classmate.

  • Have you ever used dip bait? If you have did you have any luck with it?

  • @batstarwars2 AS of today, we have not used any dip baits yet - thanks for writing in and good luck on the water!

  • i have a tip for you cat fishermen out there, if you are a real fan of fishing for cats, i highly reccomend using chicken liver. It has a great stink so the cats will go crazy for them.

  • @BaDPiXeLz Thanks for sharing your tips with us!

  • @thundermistlures glad to share mate. im sure oyu already knew that, but its much more simple getting the livers from a store than searching in compost piles for the worms. But, thats my opinion. Still, i tried using compost worms once and they work just as well as chicken livers. great video by the way. keep up the good work!

  • @BaDPiXeLz Thank you and good luck on the water .....

  • @thundermistlures You too mate. going out to the fox river tomorrow out in illinois. hoping to land a monster channel.

  • Great Video! when i catch bullhead i use red worms

  • @ArsenalFan1714 Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for sharing your tip with us!

  • I once caught a bullhead that was about the size of a large mouth bass, so bascially 14 inches

  • @Vlaxerman343 That's a big one! Thanks!

  • @thundermistlures funny thing is the man i was fishing with said he caught one that had the same size, and we both came to the conclusion that they just threw a bunch of the same sized bullheads in the water xD

  • @Vlaxerman343 Thanks for sharing!

  • I go to a pond nearby called powderhorn, and it is stocked with channel cats, bluegills, and black crappies but all i've ever caught is bullheads.

  • @josephforest45 For channels, try shrimp or fish cut-bait. For blugills, try small pieces of worm with a float. For crappie, try small minnows with a float. Hopefully you'll catch these fish as well! Good luck!

  • Great Videos! What kind of rod, reel, and line do you normally use?

  • @ModelCarMan14 We generally use a medium action 6 foot spinning rod & reel with 10 lb. test mono. Thanks!

  • lol i get 10 times more action then this, down my street there is a pond loaded with nice 1-2 footers.

  • @soccerslicer23 Sounds like you have some great fishing! Glad to hear it and thanks for taking time to write to us!

  • Does this guy ever have a bad bite?

  • bullheads make great bait for flatheads. clip the spines off, along with the pectoral fins and hook them just below the back fin through the meat. watch out for the backbone, you want them alive.

  • @GuGtheone Thanks for sharing your tip with us and for tuning in to our videos.

  • @Makotv1 You can use the T-Turn swivel and tie your hook line to the T-Turn or another method is to use what we call the Thundermist bait rig. If you go to our Thundermist fishing tips web site and do a search for Thundermist bait rig, it should appear.

Either of these 2 methods will work great, although the T-Turn method will be better as it will avoid line twist.

Thanks for writing in and good fishing!

  • r bullhead catfish in every lake or river

  • @jaquonmoye22 The majority can be found in most larger rivers & lakes of North America - mostly from the Mississippi River to the east coast & south of James Bay Ontario. Thanks!

  • love the videos and hope u keep makin more!

  • @ModelCarMan14 We'll certainly produce more videos! Thanks & good fishing to you!

  • hey its me again i love your videos and wat do u recommend for hooks when fishign for catfish

  • @Wheatleyfisher We like to use size 2, eagle claw, aberdeen long shank hooks. The long shank will allow you to remove the hook easily and the gap on a size 2 hook is perfect for bullheads.

Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water!

  • i use circle hooks for these fish but they always get gut hooked. they get in the way when trying to catch channel catfish and i end up catching about 2 dozen within 2 hours with chicken livers and only 1 or 2 channels, sometimes none.

  • @sk8metalnick6 trying using shrimp or catch a small bream and cut into small chunks

  • @1337petergriffin last time i used cut bluegill but it got eaten by a turtle which also got gut hooked even though i was using a 5/0 circle hook for big channels. i'll try it again though.

  • @sk8metalnick6 your right it is hard to keep some baits away from those turtles i use regular j hooks though and i have never gut hooked a turtle but then again they arent that big around here

    good luck

  • @1337petergriffin IT WORKED!!! earlier today i used bluegill heads for bait with a 1/0 baitholder hook and caught me a 6 pound 25 inch channel. no turtles either.

  • @sk8metalnick6 congratulations on the catch im gonna try to fish some this week

  • r u able to use regular line like u would use for bass

  • @Zzachattk101 Absolutely! Good fishing!

  • Good fishing, do you have any suggestions on a way to make to the fish hook them selves? I like to set my poles in pvc pipes and let them take it then just reel them in, if youd help itd be greatly appreciated!

  • @The7DCinema You could try circle hooks. These hooks are designed so that the fish will hook themselves.

Recommend not to use J hooks as there is a greater chance of swallowing the hook. Thanks!

  • Are those yellow bullheads or regular. The record yellow bullhead was like 4lbs and the record regular was like 8lb. If its an bullhead its small if its a yellow its pretty good. Ive caught about a 4 or 5 lb bullhead.

  • @socalstrikes Those are brown bullhead. In our area, a 2-3 pound fish is a big one. Yellow bullheads are not common in our area, but we have caught the odd one. Thanks!

  • i caught a big 9 pound regular bullhead in a small pond.

  • @fishwhisperer6100 on wut

  • @fishwhisperer6100 that would be a world record becuzz the record is 8 somethin

  • @Makotv1 Congratulations on your new reel and yes, you certainly can use a regular hook and sinker.

Thanks for writing in and hope you have a great time on the water with your new reel!

  • hey do u have any advice on keeping bait away from crawfish in my local lake? (small lake), im fishing for catfish to and using floats for them dnt help, i put chicken liver in lil sacs and the crawfish still find its way to eat them

    thx if u reply.

  • @MustangJimmy816 Try this set-up. To your main line, tie a sinker. 12 inches from your sinker onto the main line, tie an 18 inch leader which contains a hook. 6 inches away from your hook onto your leader, tie on an 8 inch piece of line containing a float that will suspend your bait but not the sinker. Your bait will remain stationary. The crawfish should not be able to climb onto your line (use mono). You have tried floats, but hopefully this will help. Good luck!

  • i thread the hook right down the middleof the worms, the worm lasts longer and had for panfish to take off.

  • @heavyhitter452 Thanks for sharing with us! Good fishing to you!

  • @thundermistlures hey I was wondering if you could make a video on your exact catfish rig for bullheads, flatheads, etc. Thanks for your time and may the fish be with you!

  • @SpoonierMilk Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for writing in - we have a few other catfish videos and if we get a chance to post another one, we'll be sure to cover the areas you mention.

Thanks again for tuning in and good luck on the water.

  • Great vid man what would you recommend for a medium size golf course pond I've pulled striped bass out before but it took me 8 hours? thanks

  • @EtowahEagle1 Glad you enjoyed the video - these same tips would work well for you in your golf course pond, so give them a try - you'll do great!

  • hey Evo do u leave your line tight or lose and are you using a light rod?

  • @tuanie1 I keep the line tight to detect the slightest bite. The rod was medium light. Thanks for writing to us and as always good luck and good fishing!

  • I have to use treble hooks where I'm at, just for the reason that I need it to hook itself, as I fish in heavy currents, how would you rig cut bait on a treble?

  • @zeeKxxL Try impaling only 2 hooks & leave the other one bare. Thanks & good fishing!

  • HERE'S A TIP FOR ALLL YOU CATFISH PEOPLE: CUT A HOT DOG INTO 4 LONG PIECES, PUT IT ON THE HOOK THEN SPRAY IT GOOD WITH WD 40, YOU'LL BE CRANKING THEM IN ALL DAY! HAVE FUNN!

  • @DrComingz Thanks for writing in and until next time, good fishing.

  • @DrComingz WD40 is illegal / unsafe for the eco system...

  • @zeeKxxL well where i catch fish wd 40 is the least of there worries!

  • @DrComingz Lol same, I'm out of the Iowa River, one of the dirtiest rivers in the USA

  • night crawlers let ought sent just now much as stink bait and stuff

  • @reptifreak99 They do have lots of scent - a catfish will surely find it.Thanks for writing!

  • @thundermistlures sure ant time sorry for the wrong spelling i was trying to type fast

  • @reptifreak99 Thanks for writing in and sharing your thoughts with us and our viewers - until next time, good luck and good fishing!

  • my freind has a pond behind his chicken barns and the bull heads love it

  • @angeloruggiero57 Thanks for writing in and sharing - until next time good lcuk and good fishing!

  • what kind of size sinker do u use?

  • @tuanie1 IN this case, a regular bell sinker is all you need. 1/2 oz or 3/4 oz should be heavy enough, assuming there is little to no current.

Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water.

  • What Rig Is It? NIce Vid By The Way!

  • @ps3265 I believe it is a Night Crawler Harness.

  • @APJeux Ohh Alright Thanks !

  • @ps3265 This rig was a simple "hook, line and sinker" rig. You can use snelled hooks or you can use a T-Turn (3-way swivel) to your hook (which would actaully be better as it will avoid line twist.

Glad you enjoyed the video and good luck on the water.

  • ive learned so much from these videos and i absolutelt love them!!!!!!! i could watch them all day! i am now a better angler thanks to thunder mist lure company!

  • @illusionistpg13 Glad you are enjoying our videos and thanks for taking time to write to us.....that's what makes our efforts worth while...we are happy to help. Until next time, good luck and good fishing.

  • @thundermistlures thanks, i plan on going freshwater castnetting today! wish me luck! and also, does thundermist lure company have a website so i can buy the viper spoon?

  • @illusionistpg13 Good luck! Hope you did well, and you can go to Thundermist lures. com for the Viper Spoons.

Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water.

  • I love your videos!!! I can watch them all day if i had the time ! Keep up the wonderful work!!!

  • @hmongapple Glad you are enjoying our videos and thanks for tuning in. We have more videos coming out each week, so stay tuned!

  • @hmongapple Nice! What are you using, looks to me like a NightCrawler Harness.

  • fun video as always!

  • @wisconsinuserone Thanks...glad you liked it! Good fishing!

  • man i lik ur vids u can fish good

  • @choua18 Thanks! Good fishing to you!

  • @thundermistlures hey do u think there are any bull catfishes in canals

  • @choua18 It's hard to give an acuate answer to your question as it would depend on many factors.

Bullheads prefer slow moving, shallow water. They also like weeds in which they serch for food.

They prefer murky water as it's easier on their eyes. Thanks for your inquiry!

  • wow nice catch

  • @luklias Glad you enjoyed the video - we had a fantastic day that day!

Thanks for writing in and until next time, good luck and good fishing.

  • @mw2player768 Actually, we were fishing in Ontario near Niagara Falls. Thanks!

  • Great vid! I've caught bullheads on chicken livers in this pond/lake. I'm wondering if you think there might be cats in their also. I've caught lots of bluegills and big carp in there. It's about 70 yards wide by 150 yards long about 10 feet deep max and not fed by any external water source. thx again.

  • @pkpaulkersey Based on your experience, it sounds like there are no channels in that pond. You would have caught them on the liver for sure. Thanks & good fishing!

  • I've had the same exact same thing happen to me before, double bullhead, one rod.

  • @xyang26 ....nice - thanks for sharing your experience with us!

  • Hey, is there any European Catfish? If there is, would you make a video how to catch them? I live in Bulgaria and here they are very popular! BTW nice Bullheads! :)

  • @ttpetiyyy Nice to hear from you in Bulgaria, and glad you enjoyed the video. Although there are not any European catfish here, you can use the same technique as it will work great for you!

Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water
