The discography in Jack Bruce's biography lists the members of the unreleased "Wildlife" sessions as being Tony Williams, Jack Bruce, Laura "Tequila" Logan, Webster Lewis and Allan Holdsworth
definitely Holdsworth on violin, it's the same touch & sound as on that one track from "velvet darkness" and as on "temporary fault" from iou. Could also be him getting funky
@wesgreen11 Yes Laura "Tequila" Logan did work at the Village Vanguard. I worked with Laura in 1977 in an 8 pc. R&B band based in N.Y. that worked around the country. The band was called aptly enough TEQUILA.Thanks to her I was thrilled to meet Tony Williams and Jack Bruce. She was a talented vocalist and excellent entertainer. I don't have any info about her current whereabouts.
@ridingroy I just listend to "Larry Young's Fuel - Turn Off The Lights - 1975 [Funk] " and thought 'what a great vocalist'...googled ...so I found out her name... one more step...and here I am :-)
This is definately Tequila from The Old Bum's Rush album. I'd wager that Alan Holdsworth is not on this recording. It Sounds like the band from The Old Bum's Rush augmented by guitar and violin.
This is great ,like this. I envisiion the seventies in this song, walking the streets of Baltimore in a light rain leaves barren late fall city bus just roured by and picked up someone wearing brown courderouy pants. My grandfather is installing cabinets in the Predentail tower downtown Boston, my Father is with him I am not alive yet. Whos singing, great lyric "everything beutiful becomes one"
great holistic bands are--gong, mother gong, magma aphrodities child, jade warrior, eat static, system 7, lisa gerrard, dead can dance, jade warrior, larry coryell, shakti, oregon, melting euphoria, ozric tentacles, steve hillage, steve tibbetts, steffi sharpstrings.
This is unexpected! I have a certain familiarity w Tony's solo records--definitely not complete, but not that skimpy either--and this tune is a delightful surprise to me. Thanks for posting!
Im not that familiar with jazz, therefore can somebody please give the name of this song? because i believe the title is the name of the drummer in the song....thanks
Lifetime was very experimental. I heard them in 1969 in a small club setting in LA and couldn't understand what the hell McGloughlin was doing. It was so advanced.
If there is violin on here, Holdsworth is really a violin player who plays guitar. which is why his guitar playing is so weird / he is seeing everything in 5ths (violin G D A E) not 4ths (guitar E A D G B E), also explains the finger/ chord stretches, making up the 2 frets difference between 4th and 5th between strings. yeah baby
AH AND J McL BOTH STARTED ON VIOLIN WHICH WOULD EXPLAIN SPEED , BUT HOLDSWORTH PLAYS WITH HAMMER ONS/OFFS SO MUCH HE DOESN'T SOUND FAST IF YOU WATCH HIM BECAUSE HIS RIGHT HAND ISN'T MOVING. lol
Tony Williams Lifetime / The Lost WildLife Tapes (1974) AKA 'Stockholm Sessions' 01 Scirocco 13:57 02 Drum Interlude 0:56 03 Hot & Sticky 5:22 04 Little Zorro 4:33 05 Happy Tears 8:27 06 Vocal Unknown 0:59 07 The Spirit 7:48 Tony Williams - drums Allan Holdsworth - guitar Jack Bruce - bass Webster Lewis - keyboards Laura "Tequila" Logan - vocals
THANKS FOR THE INFO i HAD 'BUM'S RUSH'. REMEMBER TEQUILA W/ ALAN PASQUA ON KEYS; DIDN'T THINK BRUCE WAS ON ALBUM OR HOLDSWORTH;THAT WOULD EXPLAIN VIOLIN THOUGH.
That's like comparing a Pizza to a Curry - Both Beautiful but very different - And, to me, they can co-exist quite happily - No need for Olympic Medals!! Enjoy what you like and don't be negative (not saying that you were being negative btw) Too many people regard Musical proficiency as the key to the kingdom! It's a learning curve - Drumming comes from your own experience!!!
terribly famous drummer in jazz circles.i think(dont quote me)he was considered one of the innovators of fusion(he was with miles davis during the golden yrs)
Tony Williams is one of the greatest drummers - He played with Miles Davis at the age of 17 and went on to pursue his love of drumming/composing until his untimely death in 1997. I think Tony's greatest contribution was bringing his jazz/be bop instincts to the world of rock and beyond...Sublime drummer...one of the best!! :)
yeah, i agree with you, wuckle. i love what jazz drummers like Tony Williams and Billy Cobham brought to rock music, and then back to jazz... especially during the zenith of the jazz fusion era.
@wuckle - If you are lucky enough to hear Miles live from 1967 - especially the European tour of Oct - Nov 1967, you could see that Tony was playing the Miles "book" with so much intensity that eventually he had to strike out on his own...
straight up soul right here
