Without doubt Boesendorfer and Valentina just seem to work! I would consider Liszt’s arrangement of Ava Maria (not played on this video) and his second Hungarian rhapsody capable of testing the quality of any piano. The sections from the first movement of Rachmaninoff’s second piano concerto sounded magnificent
Listen to what she said about bosendorfer "The piano doesn't play me, i play the piano" Argerich said something opposite about Steinway: "It is truly a surprise when the piano plays better than the performer."
i love how her playing style adapts to the piece she is playing. she moves slow in the soft pieces and she jumps around on the fast pieces. she is just awesome!
One day, thanks to pianists like Valentina, the publice will realise just how 5th rate Steinway pianos are, compared to Bosendorfer, Bechstein, Bluthner, Fazioli and a whole host of other makes are. As a tuner, I've been arguing this, for 30 years! - One can only hope :-)
Bahh shut it..... I went to a Bechstein shop recently, and saw some of their newest models. What surprises me, is that they try to keep an old name alive they praise... and YET they let their newest models look alike the rival's..... *SIGH*
Steinway is like stradivarius. Steinway revolutionized the piano, everybody else, EVERY OTHER RIVAL copied them, or at the very least 'just' studied them very carefully.End of story, sad story - to be honest...
cant help it. that's why rachmaninoff is my favorite composer. he touches my heart so profoundly. i had tears streaming in an instant, as you startet the second concerto..
@rulezz264 Yamaha is probably one of the most preferred brands nowadays, they all have very warm tones, extremely well balanced keys, but most importantly, quality. if you look at each Yamaha, they will have the same architecture no matter where you buy it. whereas Steinway new york would have much worse of quality (nails ever where the belly is ruined etc etc) and the europe one much more carefully crafted. I originally wanted to buy a Boston Steinway, but Yamaha c2 chose me
@Mrmusicmaster88 In my oppinion Yamaha isn't made for classical pianoplaying, I'm still at high school and they have a baby Yamaha grand there, I like to play Chopin and for Chopin certain key touch is preferable, just like for most other classical pieces, I frequently attempt playing on the baby grand at school, because I know as a pianist you have to be able to adapt. But the best way to describe it is that I just HATE it. Keytouch, the way it sustains, just doesn't fit.
@rulezz264You are completely correct on the Baby grand scale of things, however i must say, being a classical pianist myself, the C2 and above are superb for many genres except for ragtime and blues. The baby grand's keytouch is parallel to the upright series, I have a hunch why, but im not positive. My rivals and colleagues all prefer to play on Yamaha manufactured in Japan, those are the ones to look for imo. Im also in Highschool grade 12/senior year. Btw chopin is romantic era;)
@Mrmusicmaster88 Maybe it's the piano itself or maybe it's myself playing (what I doubt because on nearly any other piano I play it sounds terrific). I'm trying not to generalise and put up conclusions which aren't completely taught through, that's why I asked the question in the first place.
simply put, both Bosendorfer and Steinway produce the worlds best pianos. Its really all up to the artists and their preference, I personally like steinway better, because I think steinway sound better and the reverb on them is i believe better. Though I have never had the privilege to play a Bosendorfer and I really want to be able to.
So far, no one has captured (via "sampling") the true jewel-like upper register, and ringing tone of the lower mid range of the Bosendorfer. I have various VST samples, and they are all "honky" in the middle area.
BTW, thank you championing the Rachmaninov 1st. The 4th, recorded by Michangeli is a Masterpiece in his hands. I would love to hear you perform it one day.
Yours is a wonderful sounding Bosendorfer. The singing tone you produce is truly beautiful.
Oscar Peterson thought that the Bösendorfer was the best piano he played. I got to play the same type of piano you're playing there, and it was truly amazing. Now you think it's one of the best pianos! It just proves what I've always thought: the Imperial Bösendorfer is one of the best pianos made in the world!
I'm curios if you've ever clocked your tempo speed ? What is the fastest you've ever played a tune ? I played lead guitar for many years and was in speed metal bands in the 80s. I tested myself just for fun and found I could reach 256 x 3 beats per minute. It is so fast that there is no discernment in the notes but more of a fluctuating tone.
Please, what's the piece she plays on background from 0:43 and also from 3:27? This is absolutely wonderful playing I dare say. Thanks a lot for sharing!
