dang...when that plane went to full throttle it sounded like it was ging into hyperspace or something...the plane pulled back, slowed down, then just WHOOOSH!!!!!!! when the plane was at landing speed...
To a point it is; this a certified pilot with months of training, he should've judged this before starting a go-around with that low of altitude...It's simply too dangerous, we're talking about a 90,000 pound twin-jet here...
You don't go brushing the grass with the wings, right? Right, you do not.
@VIR092 There actually are rules that you have to be established on a stable approach at a certain point before landing. But if you're stable at that point and then a crosswind gust tosses you over at the last minute, then you have to be quick to make that last minute decision to go around. That's pretty much what happened here. Came in as stable as possible for a crosswind, and lost it at the last minute. It took skill to do what he did.
@motardkool Pardon moi? What the hell is "crooswind"? I've heard of "crosswind", but not that elementary term. You don't know jack shit you stupid bozo, go somewhere else and bug people. Leave it up to the professionals.
@motardkool Hmmm, that's funny - I'd think a professional pilot like yourself as you say, would be more forthcoming and polite but I guess not. Too bad...
By the way I'm not a "young boy" asshole.
Oh, and keep your militant views to yourself ninny.
Freaky experience for the passengers! I wonder how many fingers were left, sunk into the arm rests !? As advised by @filipescp1983 down below, go watch this vid, search on " Low pass turn Portugal Airshow 2007 " assume !!
the crosswinds didnt seem as violent until the plane was about 10 feet from the ground, so there wasnt enough time to think about an abort, a landing seemed possible. but afterwards it just went crazy, thats why he aborted promptly after first attempt.
c'mon, its a bit obvious that he had a go around on the table of options, right from the time ATC told him the wind speed. but you still try one attempt at landing before declaring a go around.
It's a cross wind landing...you go in crooked so you don't get blown to the side and you touch down straight... The wind was too strong though so he didn't touch down in time so he pulled up and went around to do it again.
well you can actually touch down crooked, but must straighten yourself very quickly before front gear touches down and plane is fully landed. you can see this in the A380 crosswind practice landings.
Why? It was not his fault. That was some really bad crosswinds. That pilot is amazing. He managed to save the plane, and in those conditions it is not difficult to crash. So why would you sue the airline? *Sigh* Another redneck who doesn't know anything about flying
either the pilot or the approach personnel is garbage because those planes can handle 40+ knots of crosswinds so either they got their winds wrong or the pilot needs to go back to flight school
The amount of crosswind that a plane can handle, has nothing to do with a missed approach. If the conditions for whatever factors are unsafe for the landing, then a go-around is a smart decision. Remember, its not that black and white..passenger comfort is paramount, and pilots are monitored on this..he may well have saved his career by choosing to abort the landing..as crappy as it was!
wow dude it doesent matter how much a plane can handle. you have to factor in visibility so that you can plan on how you are going to approach from miles out. and by the looks of it visibility wasent too great. plus you cant just fly straight into the runway. Even in 5 knot crosswinds.
The sooner we invent a practical flying saucer the better.
