Batman often uses unethical, illegal means to achieve justice. But with the emergence of the Joker, he is pushed to new extremes by a threat he is unprepared for. This scene questions the efficacy of torture which was used by the US in the so-called war on terror.
I just cant wait for the Dark knight rises ! Holy mother , i cant imagne how good its gonna be. Many ppls says that Tom Hardy (Bane) isnt gonna do as great job as Heath , but trust him , when it was Nolan who chose him
I know some people rag on the voice, but it doesn't sound a thing like his Bruce Wayne voice, so as a disguise, it works perfectly and makes sense. I love how Superman puts on glasses and he's now unrecognizable :)
One of the better fight scenes in the movie. This movie was great, but the fights were garbage. Batman begin had better fights. I hope the next film has better fight choreography.
@PunchyGus You must be on 'The Dark Knight" bandwagon. Yea, yea. Heath Ledger as the joker, blah, blah, blah. Bro, the fight scenes are slow and uneventful. Besides that, the movie is great. When they are in the building that's under construction he at one point has time to slowly, and carefully move the guys head to the side and hit him in the side of the neck. I am 23 years old, have been training and coaching MMA since I was 15. And I stand by my remark. Hope of the dark knights dick bro.
@TheRydaddyops910 Considering the villian is Bane, I think we'll all be in for a real treat as Bane is one of Batman's strongest foes (behind Killer Croc)
@TheRydaddyops910 Considering the villian is Bane, I think we'll all be in for a real treat as Bane is one of Batman's strongest foes (behind Killer Croc)
THIS NEEDS A NEW VIDEO GAME! Just think, a stage where you get to be in the club fighting off some mobs and it should look simmilar the the batman begins video game just with better quality and REALLY simmilar to this film. If not i have no doubt that the dark knight rises would have a video game also! thumbs up if you agree :D
the thing that makes batman awsome is he is serious, violent and brutal and has no super powers he rely's on his equipment and methods to deal with the criminals, batman is fucking awsome unlike superman gay asses
When they come around to rebooting Batman again, cause' that's what Warner Bros are apparently doing. Although, it'll be interesting to see what angle they take. It will, in no way be as epic as Nolan's Batman's saga (Although Nolan will continue to remain as part of the directing crew for the reboot).
Watching this scene in theaters was EPIC. When he fell, it was really unexpected. Everyone clapped when Batman said "I'm counting on it" and dropped him.
@jd1060 i saw this movie at imax in new york city, the theater that the rich snobs on the upper east side patronize. clapping or cheering is unacceptable in a theater for us yuppies. we are civilized and educated.
@noirkitten This is a young Batman in his sixth month on duty. On top of that, his capacity to fight crime is in serious jeopardy by the time he confronts Maroni, and this scene serves to illustrate the moment Wayne realizes the Batman persona cannot be saved, so long as the Joker is in play. It would be too impressive for him to conform his frustration at this very moment.
Also, while I like your point regarding a "whispering sociopath," Bale's bipolar delivery is personally more terrifying.
this movie had to few fistfights. call me old fashion but there's nothing I love more than seeing a guy like batman taking out a couple of thugs. And I aways thought they could have squeezed in a fight after batman takes out the joker's truck.
When you see TDK in IMAX the painfully deep, bass sound of Batman breaking bones and fracturing skulls in this scene makes it completely jarring. Around the third time I saw TDK I watched the audience during the part where Batman drops Maroni. You hear his leg snap and the hoarse, exhaled wail of pain from his lungs. Everyone in the audience jumped, all the women covered their eyes.
Bale is soo fuckin badass in this, the way he just throw the guy over the balcony, gets bottled then just breaks the guys elbow! Then just chucks some huge guy down to the stairs! Looks sick in the strope lights seeing him flashing in and out of view :D
people give him shit for the voice, but if you notice, he's always hunched over he moves swift and fast, and his punches are mean as a motherfucker, my point being, is that bale's portrayel of batman is to make the character almost anamalistic. he is litterally a beast. so I never had a problem with the voice.
@triplejpm You hit the nail on the head. People don't seem to understand this. The Batman character is supposed to be creature, Bale's portrayal is perfect.
What I like about Dark knight is it shows the changing of the guard. We're seeing the demise of the mob and typical criminals and seeing more of Batman's traditional rogues gallery: Scarecrow, Joker and Two-Face. Hopefully we'll see Penguin and Riddler in the next film.
This is probably my favourite scene in the movie purely because of the fact you get to see just how violent and different Batman is to any other superhero.
@XxGuerrillaSilenceXx Yeah I have and theres also Spawn and Jonah Hex but none of them are really mainstream. I was comparing Batman to other popular heroes like Superman, Spider - Man, Fantastic Four, Iron Man etc.
We all have. What makes this scene so effective is that Batman doesn't overkill on the angry side of him cause Bale really nailed it. Batman is super angry and he wants answers. The Punisher is super angry all the time, which can be overkill.
@americanpsycho28 Exactly right! Bale nailed this scene! You didn't want to be in Maroni's shoes here. This scene was so shocking because I don't think anyone expected to see Batman drop him so quickly and just so ruthlessly. Then he immediately screams at him demanding answers. "WHERE IS HE!"
@los1975 Yeah I remember when I went to see this for the first time in the cinema, everyone just went ''whoa'' when Maroni was pushed and then gasped when his leg snapped. As a Batman fan I got such a thrill from that reaction cause finally this is the Batman that I've wanted everyone to see. No longer is he a kid friendly character.
@Kosomaddo Joker has 'friends" until he gets bored of them and kills them, or tricking them into killing each other. Now that I think of it, the Joker probably isn't into paying his henchmen health benefits, other than killing them and selling their organs to the black market.
it was a bit much in the part with joker. but i guess he had just been attacked by dogs and stabbed and beaten by joker. so the guy was in agony which explains his voice in that scene i guess
The voice was perfect here, seriously. He starts off his interrogation with Maroni very stoic, then he doesn't get the answers he wants so you get the beast/rage of batman. I just love how he yells "where is he?!" I wish the voice sounded this good during his final showdown with the Joker.
