I am from Charleston, and even though the accents are near as strong today as they were from the lady in the videos generation, there still are a lot of natives here that say Nuuuth. @raoul4 Part of the humor just comes from the build-up over the whole thing--she just doesn't seem all that aware of what's going on. At all. So when he asks if they drop the baby off (probably thinking with her, for babysitting) it's pretty surreal that her mind wouldn't immediately think that he means with her, the grandmother.

Same for the "where's the river?" thing--she's got some very particular ways of thinking about things. Very specific instructions in some things but not others.

Many of you may not be aware of why poor folks (often blacks) were often located on one side of the RR tracks and wealthier people (often whites) were on the other side of the tracks in the South. The reason has to do with the prevailing wind direction down south - out of the south. In the old days, trains were powered by wood and coal. The thick black smoke was driven northward by the prevailing winds, making the north side of the tracks less desirable - and a cheaper area to live.
