  • Again, cant keep away from you're achives Dave! 37688 larvelly, fond memories of her thrashing Wigan with some Marcroft flats back in April.

  • I'll be honest with you Wooly, I can't keep away from my own archives either! LOL! Cheers.

  • Amazing video Dave, first ever steam I saw running was the Duke Of Gloucester which came unexpected in Wigan before I was trainspotting! A little bit of 'bad things to come' karmas came from this video, because now I have visions of our 37s being 37/6s, where they WILL put 57601 on the rear :( We should live in hope that 37423 comes on this tour!

  • Thanks Wooly. I for one have got my fingers crossed for 37423 as well...

  • Great video, i have always wanted to go to Carlisle on train, but never got the time, is there a web site where i can find out when the charters go, now i'm meeting other people on youtube who have the same hobby, there is so many great train videos.

  • There are a couple of charter company and information sites that will have various sources on trips to Carlisle and places like that. Look out for a Private Message shortly. Cheers Dunky1962.

  • Thank you for that.

  • Seems a little unusual for the Duke to haul MK II stock, but a unique change as its rare for steam locos to haul them stock!

  • When the Duke was last out on railtour duty a month ago, it was hauling Mk2 stock as well. Cheers GreatWestern175!

  • That Pullman carriage looked a bit odd being there.

  • It did indeed. Cheers SwindonCable!

  • Brilliant video, I especially like the bit where the DRS 37s depart.

  • Cheers 21C123!

  • Great video.

  • Cheers class442!

  • Very nice video, I'd have been there myself, but like the previous weekend I was stuck at work. Who knows I may have passed by in my bus had I been driving the 3A service!!

Thanks for sharing, its almost like being there!!

  • Thanks for the kind words class31!

  • Good video - nice shot of the Duke and a pair of 37s as well - nice! NN

  • Cheers NapierNimbus!

  • Great video got to see the steamer at arnside, was working the box at the time, never got chance to see the 37s but they looked great on the vid!!!!!

  • Cheers pattonrail!

  • Arnside aye? I have visited there several times, it is a grand view, and of the viaduct, just a shame not much of interest very often. Bet to see the steamer on there was ace. I went on the EWS 37 tour over it late last year. Superb.

  • Arnside has great views, and working in the signal box is fantastic, watching the steamer start of from the home signal yesterday was brill.Just wish i could have seen the 37s.

  • Hellfire vid mate!! I would love to catch up with 71000 one day, not seen her for years! Re: The poisenis? fumes above. I have spent many hours breathing in the fine clag of passing mighty beasts and I find it better than any medicine any day!

  • Cheers jammiebeasts. I couldn't quite smell the clag; don't know if it was me or the cold air. 71000 is normally around the country on charter work, but based on the ELR when not. Thanks again!

  • great vid nice steam and 37s 5* vid

  • Cheers pal! You got EWS growlers down your way (nice stuff btw!), and up in the North we got DRS. HELLFIRE!!!!! Cheers again.

  • Hellfire 37 pairing!

  • You're darn right there. Cheers 37372!

  • class 37s and 47s dont get used much because the gas that comes out of the engine is poisenis which causes pollution so thats why the hardly use them now

  • That, and the 'shed' and 'skip revolution ended those halcyon British loco days. Oh well, DRS do at least have the goodness to use heritage traction too. Cheers LeePookeLFC!

  • LOVELY!

  • Cheers mststv!

  • Nice day for it! :P

  • Too right! Hellfire (The DRS 37's that is, LOL!). Cheers jim40135.

  • Good stuff, but you didn't get the Duke's whistle!!!!

What was that guy doing with his arms waving about in a circular motion when the 37's departed?

Thanks for posting this, looks like Preston was a good place to be to get 2 charters for the price of 1 visit.

  • I'm a bit hopeless when it comes to timing, I only usually start recording as soon as the whistle goes.

The guy on the right of the departing 37 charter was 'flailing'. He did that to express the appreciation of the noise and clag coming from the two DRS tractors.

    Cheers video47!

  • I always miss the whistles too. I say they should make it a rule to give a quick toot, then whistle for the benefit of filmers. As for flailing, I have heard of the word, but I never knew it meant doing that. You still won't catch me doing it, I am too busy with a camera in my hand for 'flailing' :-)

  • Me too. :-)

  • Better to flail than stick two fingers up at watchers on the platform like one of the support crew on D.o.G did, very professional of them I'm sure. not.

  • Yeah, didn't see that till I played it back. Apologies if this video has caused any (unintentional) offence.
