@fyrentenimar Bethesda Softworks (not the publisher) has the reasonable excuse that they don't have a Motion-Capture studio for realistic animations. Square Enix, who has tons of money, utilizes their studio for the movie scenes - which seems to be the predominant cut of their games.

Notice that Square Enix : Montreal, Square Enix (Squaresoft), and all the other are different groups, which work together only due to business aquisitions

There seems to be a whole lot of cinematics in this game and very little gameplay. Is it like this throughout the whole game? The FF series have always been known by featuring long cutscenes but they usually pop up when you've completed a stage of the game, conversely this game seems to constantly trigger a cutscene everytime you walk into a room.

I've always found it a bit odd that the main characters for all JRPG games seem to follow a certain archetype... male uses a sword, female uses a bow. It's very odd.

@fingerdance7 Traditional Japanese weapons were swords for the men and bows for the women, therefore bow is a 'feminine' weapon, and goes with her short skirt, pink color scheme, high-pitched voice and tripping over everything like a true JRPG girly stereotype.

... actually the bow was heavily used by men in Japan, in fact it was the Samurai's weapon of choice whilst mounted. This whole bow/sword thing is most likely because indirect fighting is considered less "manly" these days.

The bow is indirect and is therefore less "manly" than running up and hitting it with things. The sword is considered to be a "heroic" weapon and therefore is often the weapon of choice for protagonists.
