You do realize that Beatmania came before DDR right? Without it, there would be no DDR, and a very large portion of the songs on DDR originated from Beatmania.

Do a search for IIDX on youtube. There are tons of people making videos of themselves playing the songs. I believe IIDX is about to have its 16th release out soon (on the PS2).

This is a Beatmania IIDX song that was used on a DDR release.

Beatmania has been running strong in Japan. They even have arcade releases like DDR, on totally sweet cabinets that pump the bass through your feet when you play. It's just that the one game we happened to get completely flopped and was missing a lot of IIDX's better features.

You don't hear anyone talking about playing it because you're not looking in the right places. If I went to a Power Rangers forum, do you think anyone would be talking about playing DDR there?

and i look a lot....a lot of people don't even know what beatmania is...all they talk about is ddr, u have to admit it's completely true

A lot of people don't know because it's much more successful in Japan than it is in the US. If you got to Japan, you'd find a lot more people who don't know what DDR is, since it has been essentially dead over there since Extreme was released.

And if you went to South America, nobody would know anything about DDR but they would have Pump It Up everywhere. You have to take into consideration where you are in the world. On the internet you'll learn about cultures you might never bother to meet in real life, and you'll think they're uncommon. People used to think the Earth was at the center of the universe.

If you learn about these other games, you can tell your friends and START hearing about them.

Actually, I'm a pretty avid Beatmania player myself. And i know a gooood amount of people from NYC who all play beatmania. ddr has been dead since extreme and if people do want to play ddr, they'll play extreme. i mean if it weren't for BM there would be no DDR
