Thanks so much for getting back to me. Will spend a bit more time on my jump rings to work harden them as I assemble my jewelry designs. Thanks again. Your help has been invaluable to me!
Really good to know since that's all I have so far - new at jewelry making for selling. Is there a way to close silver-plated jump rings permanently? Trying to keep things more affordable for my target market.
@boxer3086 Really the only way is with a laser welder or arc welder, these run from $5,000 to about $15,500 on up. Some people use a low temp solder like Stay Brite with a soldering iron, but this isn't very permanent and in my oppinion doesn't look very good. The best solution is to work harden the rings as much as possible and make them springy.
Mark, can you demonstrate how to set up and operate Hydroflux welder and how to regulate different flames for particular jewelry soldering. I see on youyube only one ortodantist demonstration with this welder system. Thank's
can you use this paste on brass bezels to solder them to each other or to attach loops, I have some easy silver solder paste but it will not flow , I am using a butane torch. What am I doing wrong ???
@trekranger If it's a tile used to protect your table from the soldering process, then yes a regular floor tile is great. The boric acid and the pickle are both mixed in batches. They are a consumable and cannot be reused. Disposal laws vary from city to city, so you'll have to contact your city offices for that information.
Can you show how to solder a jump-ring closed AFTER you have made the necklace / bracelet? That's when I want to solder the jump-rings closed (after I've attached the beads). Is the process any different when you've got the rest of the jewelry hanging from the jump ring?
for those of you that work with metal. You need to get a challenge test from a Naturopath ocassionly. Chealating metals out of your body is easy. you can use cilantro, chlorella, and kombucha tea -- these are natural chelators. Don't let that toxic metal load your inhaling cause you health issues later. If you have liver spots on your hands it is a early warning of a increasing metal burden in your deep tisues and organs. (just look on line) .
Can you do this with a soldering gun? I've got a Dremel Versatip and I don't think it gets hot enough. The solder paste doesn't seem to harden. It's my first time though, so I'm probably doing something wrong. :(
@cazad1966 Ok, first i think you should check the metal you are going to solder (aluminum won't solder) and im not sure you can solder with soldering paste on a soldering gun. but i think the problem is the metal not so much the heat. GOOD LUCK AND BE SAFE !!!!!!!!
Love this!! This is exactly what I need. You make it look so simple! I need to get all of those tools asap! Where can I get them? Do you have a list to get started?
Check out the Beads Baubles and Jewels website for a full-length instruction sheet. Wondering if these techniques will work on sliver-plated or silver-filled jump rings?
boxer3086 1 month ago
@boxer3086 Hi, This will work on silver filled but NOT silver plate. The plate will burn off, or bubble up and look horrible. I hope this helps.

He has two flux. One to prevent surface oxidation and the other to help the solder flow. Are the two flux the same materials? He never clarified.
