I think it's a sad thing that they do focus on things like artificial skin or expression of a female robot. They used to have a lot of achievements and publications in HRP-2, in mechanic, dynamics and real AI, but now they focus more on entertainment thing instead of practical application.

I'll appreciate the moment they decide to stop making mecha-robots and attempting to make human-looking machines. Let them have a sort of resemblance, but uncanny valley is fucking HUGE... Yeah, it's impressive, but I doubt we'll get critical mass levels of adoption of these sorts of things until(I realize price and other issues are a contributing factor) we stop trying to make them into artificial humans or goofy mecha-bots.

And only now do I see this was two years ago. Wonder what's changed.

@LithiumLogica Well anthromorphism in robots is always a big draw, you could have something like a massive squat multifunction vacuum cleaner but I doubt it would have the same appeal.

That's why the knowledge is exponential, that is a point very impressive, for example. It took 1000,000 years to control fire, 100,000 years to develope bow and arrow. But in just 100 years humankind passed in 1900 to practicaly not having nothing, to have cars, aircraft, TV, electrodomestics, computers, stellites, cellphones, internet, everything. I love this robot :) I think it's amazing that people can make things like this. No, I don't think they'll take over our jobs anytime soon, and they're not gonna be made into giant sex toys either. So just enjoy the moment where they're a great launch in technology :)

It's not a sexbot. You can't take the body armour she is wearing off.  It is a prototype AI Android capable of walking, talking, singing, and a few facial expressions - quite a development in the human-like robotics world.
