  • the guys over at Red Jacket firearms (Sons of Guns) did one HELL of a show on the USS Kidd on the 4th July 2011. Gave the old girl one last mission to serve and defend the country she and her crew and we love so much. Rest in peace to the crew of this beautiful ship.

  • I'd hate to be on the deck in the 20 mm gun tub when the 5"ers are firing too.

  • My grandfather served on another Fletcher-class destroyer, the USS O'Bannon (DD-450), during World War II.

  • " Sir, I can't find General Quarters, but I found Major Pain" .

  • Kids playing.. wannabe's for the real thing.

  • Ship is now Located in Lake Charles, La. Toured it today and met some of the men who were stationed on here. What an honor.

  • @tigersaint07 The ship is still located in Baton Rouge, LA

  • @smartsniper308 Sorry, thought it was the USS Orleck. Looks exactly the same. It has an interesting story behind it. Was nicknamed the grey ghost for its service in Vietnam and Korea. Fired the most rounds for it's kind during Vietnam.

  • What are they planning to shoot at ?? I was in the Tonkin Gulf when a MiG attacked us...and a destroyer nearby. From what I heard the MiG came in so fast there wasn't even time to swing the gun around

  • Oh, yeah, drop that swab where everyone can trip over it!

  • ya'll shooting up down town baton rouge

  • Your impression is FARB. Get some proper dungarees and a HAIRCUT!

  • What gun was that ,really

  • That's a twin 20mm mount

  • @PvtMarx45 It's twin 20 mike mikes, the actually gun is called an Oerlikon 20mm, Swiss made just like the Bofors 40mm, both weapons were used throughout the second world war by the U.S. and other navies as anti-aircraft weapons.

They are very reliable, the bofors especially, still being used today by the USAF's AC-130U and H model Spectre gunships

    - A cheery sailor currently serving in the worlds finest Navy (That would be the U.S. Navy ;)

  • @muffdiver0069 Racist prick. Watch your mouth!

  • That boat don't look like it is going anywhere.

  • You just have to love a Fletcher DD.

  • If a Japanese strafes you, those 20 mils will kill you even if you have 2 inches of steel around you

  • Yes. And those sailors had to live with that fear every day.

  • My Grandfather lived with a different fear during the war. Drowning in an engine room. He was a mechanic on a destroyer.

  • @smartsniper308 You couldn't have said it better here.

    Hoo-yah Navy!

  • @smartsniper308 i think they had to die with that

  • @noonedude101 Too bad that's not steel. It's adamantium.

  • where is this ship located at??

  • Baton Rouge, LA

    USS KIDD DD 661

  • They are life jackets, not flak vests!

  • Those are Kapok life vests.

  • what's those Flak/fragmentation vests they'r using?
