I wish there was a better recording than this, cause this crappy audio quality does NOT give these amazing players any justice at all. The last chord=Awesomeness!
The musicianship of these guys is not to question I think, but in the field of jazz or in this case bossa nova I agree, I now many trombonists I'd rather hear playing this! And none of them would ever beat Joe on an audition for New York Phil I'm sure! Different musical worlds that's all! Everything in there playing is gr8 as far as ensemble, balance, sound etc, but just listen to a real jazztrombonist and you will experience the difference...
I tried to get a quartet of this together my senior year but i couldnt get the music in time. I love the piece, one of my favorites, also love the group, had one the albums lol.
These guys are all absolute top of the line classical trombone players, but I dont think they should be moving into the realm of jazz, just dosent swing as hard. I am in no way insulting these guys either, I love Joes playing, just not jazz. You can give me a -1 if you want to, this is just my opinion.
I agree somewhat; their recording of this piece kind of screwed up everyone's interpretation. It's bossa nova, yet they play it highly swung. If it's the only recording you own (which for too many trombonists it is) it's hard to get those swung eighth notes out of your head!
My buds and I played this with more precision and less "cacks" when we were in high school... if I were back in the states I'd try to get that off the video cassette onto this site. Yes, and I know I'm knocking probably some of the best trombonists in the world... this isn't their best performance... anyway, it was fun hearing this one on the net anyway.
wow... you are an idiot... indeed, jump off cliff you ass. they are havin fun and you DIDN'T playing anywhere close to that in HS or else you would would have Joe's job... try some ear training to help remedy that problem...
So hmm... jump off cliff, Luke? After calling me an idiot, you sound like some Native American... see cliff, jump over hill, hit head on rock, make fire. Maybe it's more like a caveman. I guess I'd PROBABLY proofread a little 3 line comment when you're trying to call someone an idiot. Poor guy... actually you sound more like a caveman. Homo habilus, maybe? Maybe just homo. Haha, anyway, that's still not their best performance.
I highly doubt you played this with more clarity than this recording. And if you think that you having less "cacks" makes your high school performance better, than you really don't know what music is about. There is so much more to music than just hitting all the notes on the page. The musicality of this ensemble is amazing. the balance between them(particularly bass and 1st) is AWESOME.
I can't agree more. Especially the bass trombone's smoothness. I can't even dream to ever play that well. These "cacks" he speaks of I couldn't hear, and obviously he has little to no musicality if he thinks highschoolers can best these guys.
@bassbone1785 Can "best" these guys? Why can't anyone speak English when they comment on the internet. BILLY MADISON... good movie for you... go back to elementary school and realize what you've lost... BASIC GRAMMAR.
@dcarr1212 than=THEN... everyone that comments on the internet should have a basic understanding of the English language and how it works. People learn grammar very early in life, and I doubt you weren't taught the difference between than and then. I've got more musicality in my middle finger THAN you have in your entire family tree. Thank you.
@TheDoctorGoat333 Lol I love how people actually believe that you think you're better than Joe. And, even if you are better than Joe, your attitude is terrible. You would never make it in the music business because no one would work with you. Amazing players with bad attitudes don't get called back. Great players with good attitudes do.
And, before you correct people on their grammar, check your double negative, buddy.
Pretty hard. I tried it with my quartet years ago. You have to be perfectly in tune with each other and play flawlessly together, or you lose the whole effect of the piece. Notice, you rarely hear more than two trombones playing together (except at breaks, where you hear 4) but all four trombonist are constantly playing, what does this tell you about them?
You are right. The original version is named "chega de saudade", of Tom Jobim, Brazilian musician, but I didn't know that there was an american version of this piece. Excuse my english.
For anyone that might be mildly retarded and can't find the similarity between No More Blues and Chega de Saudade,Chega de Saudade Is often translated as "No More Blues." It's the same song....
Sweet these guys are my favorite trombone quartet and they aren't even a full time group. Their recording are awesome...each and every player is virtuoso in their own right and what a smooth smooth sound on bass trombone by Blair Bollinger.

@TheDoctorGoat333 If we'ew correcting grammar, then it's "fewer cacks", not "less cacks".
