this is for my cousin maxine ( RIP ) and i favorite song ... i can still see us now u the room singing with our eyes closed, not knowing really how true those words as going to be in our own lives, for me anyway. maxine married a good man n had a happy life with him till she died. i miss her greatly !!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!What a precious memories, and omg this song makes me do foolish things and we learned from our mistakes, and i kept holding on even though as i waited for the phone to ring and it didn't ring as the the tears falling from my eyes, make me think to be more civilized, lol make me stronger. rest in peace martha reeves, your songs is still like yesterday to me, that i will never forget, i wouldn't trade for another, god bless you,
IMHO this was Martha's magnum opus, THE BEST vocal performance she ever gave. It was a damn shame that Gordy routinely shorted Martha and The Vandellas in favour of his lover Diana Ross, giving Diana the best songs available, Martha herself admitted this, while passing onto Martha those that were considered minors. When Martha did manage to get a good-un WOW, what she was capable of!
I swear that Martha could and DID sing circles around Ross any day of the week.
@Babyhowdy233 , You are beating a dead horse. Even Flo admitted that Diana was best suited for cross over appeal, which was very important at the time. The 60's in the USA, sadly enough was when black people were still treated like 3rd class citizens, and Motown became famous right on the cusp of the civil rights movement era
Many "B" sides (Gosh this shows my age lol) were as good. - if not better than some of the "A" sides lol.
However I did notice that this particular recording the bass guitar was distorting a little, resulting in a fuzzy sound, but of course recordings in those days were not as brilliant compared to today's standards.... .
