Back in April, long before Maliki said anything, Obama said he would pull out in 16 months no matter what the commanders on the ground said.

ClassicFIHD:What you say is true, but Nixon still broke away from the US's isolation of China and met with them with no pre-conditions. The US is in process of doing the same with Iran,by forging closer ties with Syria. Plus Iran is now suffering economically from round after round of sanctions,they'll eventually have to fold. The Bush administration have not talked to Iran(until just recently),which has gotten us absolutely nowhere.I don't see how Obama's willingness to talk to Iran is wrong.

It's not wrong to talk with these countries leaders. But you have to be careful how it's done. Reagan had a serious threat so he did what he had thought he had to do. Even with Reagan it backfired, so that should be more support you need preconditions.

Actually I think when Obama first said that he didn't really know what he said, and he's just too stubborn to say he made a mistake. He was at a Democratic Debate, and the other 7 Candidates looked at him like he was nuts.

Why do you think that all of a sudden that the US is holding back channel talks with Iran after thirty years of failing to meet with the islamic state? Bush even went against his own policies by sending diplomats to talk to Iran in Geneva. It's funny how people bash Obama's policies as naive, but now the government is implementing them. They said that Iraq time-table was naive, yet Maliki wants one. They said he was naive about talking to Iran, yet Bush administration is doint just that.
