Loads of people think that the Black Machismo gimmick is bad and ruined Jay Lethal's career but I think the opposite. Before the gimmick, Lethal was good in ROH but then became an X Division jobber when he joined TNA. Then after he debuted the gimmick in the PCS he was really funny and during the time afterward he won the X Division title a few times and had that massive victory over Kurt Angle. Now, I think the gimmick has had its time and should drop it cause he is already over.

The perfect example of this was during the what should have been a serious moment between Lethal and Daniels. I did not mind the Black Machismo character at first, and still there is nothing wrong with Lethal having some similarities to Savage out of respect , but it is long time to get rid of the verbatim Macho Man act. TNA should have been gradually toning it down, but instead it has gotten worse over time.

At first it was like Jay Lethal is goofing because of Nash giving him it to him. Now it is like Jay Lethal really is Savage. It is now starting to hurt him and will land him in midcard land forever. There are only two ways to go at this point. You either play off where Jay Lethal is nuts and really believes he is Savage and build something around that, or you slowly phase it out or at least dramatically tone it down. Lethal is too talented to be stuck with an obsessed fan gimmick forever.
