Along with Godzilla, King of the Monsters, this has to be one of the few Americanizations of a foreign movie that was done with enough genuine respect, intelligent, and creativity to make it not only worthwhile, but an interesting film in its own right.

As a "Dumbass Whiteboy" raised on Rambo, Terminator, Predator, Dawn of the Dead and all the other action & horror 18+ movies we could even fucking GET over here in the UK, its safe to say we all would have enjoyed it. This movie was banned until the late 80's I believe - how old are you? The fact is that too few people have seen this series regardless of race anyway (and chambara movies as a whole!).

I have to say, as well, that this has some of the best lip-synching I've ever seen in a dub-job. I think I read somewhere they hired deaf people to read the lips of the actors and come up with some dialogue that went along with the story and matched up with what they saw.

The actor who plays the protagonist is the older brother of famous Japanese actor Kato,who played Zatoichi the blind swordsman. They look identical,so i thought it was Kato.

This film is fantastic even without the blood, but I have to say the introduction of the music did better the film over the originals :-) Need to start making films like this again....

BUT!

With the same grainy quality, but with wicked effects...Its kind of like the new James Bond films, (of on a tangent but) -- they are great!

BUT!

Imagine the same quality as the 1st movies and set in the 60s but with all of the wicked effects of today merged with it..

Just thoughts anyhow :-)

This is a great movie! I saw this movie when I was young and been a fan of Kiichiro Wakayama, Toshiro Mifune and Shintaro Katsu  ever since. This is part 1 and 2 fused together. But I would watch all 6 movies to get the full effect of the lone wolf and cub story. I even have the 12" Jidaigeki real action figure of lone wolf and cub from Japan. It looks just like them, it even has the knives that pop out of the baby cart. The action figures and cart are very cool and it was worth every penny!
