@merzer131 Not at all. I guess the biggest problem I had was the inclusion of the Sammy Hagar video -- it wasn't a patriotic song at all, just a bit of comedy from Sammy Hagar. It seems the commentators couldn't distinguish between the ridiculous patriotic stuff and what was simply a funny video.

Its not patriotism, it's jingoism. Patriotism is loving where you were born, mistakes and all. Jingoism is blindly defending your country and ignoring all of its faults, which is completely idiotic. Patriotism is asking questions of your government, Jingoism is trusting your government no matter what, even when they treat you or your fellow man like crud.

@NJburbsSeeker I suppose I am. But one cannot ignore Jingoism over patriotism. Jingoism is a curse. IT's like being blissfully ignorant to the crimes your government commits, against you and the world.
I'm not from the US by the way, I'm IRish through and through. But my own country has made some MASSIVE mistakes (Our last government bankrupted us into the ground, while lying through their teeth). That is why I feel someone who trusts their government is asking for trouble.

@yellowcougar18 Wow a liberal in a socialist country. Anyway I often find people call patriotism jingoistic when it isn't patriotism directed the way they want. Many time crimes of the government I find are a matter of perspective, and give it enough time these views change. Blindly following the government is never good, but there are people who are never satisfied and deep down hate their country. These people are unproductive and I have no time for them. Not meaning you either I might add.

@williamm911 Yes, and the flags are so similar too. I mean, one has red and the other has orange, which is a kind of red. As you say, the beards are similar. And both countries can be freezing cold whenever they choose.
God, I wonder why I never saw the comparisons before. Although, in Soviet Russia, comparison sees you. :)

@MrCorisdavis913 Yeah, that is something which I feel should be corrected. I think the reason for that is because as soon as Obama won the election, and before his inaugeration, the guy was already getting criticised for being a bad president. But he wasn't even president. Certain news outlets jumped the gun. On the other hand, it is hard to criticise a guy who is running a country that is up to its eyeballs in debt. Bush had a surplus, but destroyed that and the US image.

@yellowcougar18 contd Obama has to now correct this atrocious image of America, as well as fixing the economy, and fixing relations with former friends and allies. In addition, he has to bring the economy back from the brink, and sort out the failings of the last blundering puppet. But that does not mean he should be immune from criticism. Now, guys like Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, and Limbaugh should always be ignored for being crazy. But constructive criticism is important.

@jestempies Far, far, far from it. Jingoism is when someone sees their country as the victim, not the villain. There is a certain form of Narcissisim involved also. Jingoism allows the KKK to gain power, allows the Nazi's to become the ruling party, allows the IRA to kill innocent people because they are "Not like them".
Patriotism is seeing flaws, and embracing them, Knowing we learned/learning from them, wanting to make their homeland better. Jingoism sees no flaws, blind ignorance.
