  • Oh this is just sublime; why oh why oh why dont gymnast perform compulsories now???? Even something like a simple back walkover looks exquisite with wonderful flexibility like this. How many gymnasts now can do it as good as this???

  • i absolutely love this routine.. but i have no idea why comaneci's compulsory floor seems to have different music.. is it just me or does anyone feel the same?

  • Nadia's music sounds different because there's audio problems in the coverage of her routine.

  • really? because until now i've heard three different versions of music for this compulsory set.. so this is the correct one?

  • Countries used different music back then, but they performed the same choreo.

  • The different Federations would play the music differently. The piano players would be told to accent certain parts of the music and I'm sure you'll hear it played in higher and lower octaves. If you listen to the 1988 Compulsories, for instance, you will notice differences in how each team's piano player performs the music.

  • Yes, but I noticed from 80 Moscow the Soviet and Romanian teams had differnt compulsory music, though the dance is the same.

  • What GREAT dynamic flexibility! Very few gymnasts train that these days - they have static and active but I love the lift before her back walkover and how her leg easily goes above horizontal on her side kicks.

  • Exquisite! Natalia Shaposhnikova's FX compulsory is comparable to Daniela Silivas' in 1988. Impeccable and spectacular!

She seems to puncture the air when performing the basic tumbling with such precision, amazing toe point and amplitude.

  • It certainly is. I believe Silivas, Shapo, and Omelianchik probably had the best compulsory floor routines ever. :)

  • Add Mostepanova to that list. :)

  • Ravishing. Daring, strong, brave, graceful, precise...those positions she hits. Such quality of movement in a gymnast, unfortunately, is dead as a doornail today.

  • Vibrant, dynamic and captivating! She makes one reminisce about the good times.

Natalia Shaposhnikova was undoubtedly one of the best gymnasts during this great period in gymnastics.

  • I always thought Olga Korbut is the best. Shaposh is equally that great!! Thanks for posting this.

  • What a wonderful artist! This is a very beautiful choreographed compulsary and Shaposh more than does it justice.

  • Natalia Shaposhnikova is exquisite. This performance is absolutely captivating! Her gymnastics routines are the perfect fusion of artistry and athleticism.

  • Great to have more Shaposh - wanted the 80 compulsory fx for a long time. Now if someone could find the exhibition where shaposh wore the beautiful dark blue with flowers leotard....

  • I've only seen videos of Yelena Mukhina wearing a blue leotard with flowers. But perhaps a vid of Natalia is out there with a similar leotard?

  • i love it, thanks!!

  • who doesn't love shapo??? :)

  • I dreamt since childhood of seeing videos of Shapo-I only could look on in awe at photographs of her and her amazing balances on beam. Youtube and wonderful posters like MizMamie made that childhood dream come true!! :)
