Clem-I don't know the laws in England, but here in the US, there are laws against noise after a certain hour....I believe it's 10pm on weekdays, and 11 on the weekends. It's called disturbing the peace. You call the police, and they come out and tell them to knock it off!

I had moved from a flat to a house in a decent neighborhood, and the only thing that changed for noise is the type of noise. Now I don't hear neighbors above me stomping around like elephants and constant fights (screaming, breaking windows). Now I get loud cars and barking dogs all hours of the night.
It can ve really annoying when people do this late at night, I remember my father used to work in a bike shop with a flat above it, one night the next door neighbours had loud music playing to all hours, Dad eventually got up and started whacking tghe walls with a slipper, eventually he went around to their flat and told them to shut up which they did.
@Lachlant1984 I live near the local sports ground and last year at 11 pm they were playing Arabic music with outdoor speakers and I could hear it bounce back to my home 200m.
