@VolvenIV I don't know if the creators planned it this way, but Death Note has caused a lot of discussion from various people about what is right and wrong, usually referencing Light's actions. While some people think Light was doing what was right by killing criminals and those who got in his way, some people think the opposite. I am the latter, and I side with L. Light had pure ambition. I believe he would have always done whatever it took to become a living god. He had no doubt, he was driven by HIS goals, not Ryuk, not L not even the Death Note. Light knew what he was doing. Corruption was not apart of his vocabulary.

@DrCowboyFace Well, at the end, I'm positive that the Death Note kinda gave him two sides: Light Yagami and Kira. During the final face off with Near, Light, in my opinion, really became the "god," Kira. However, after he loses to Near and is shot by Matsuda (sorry about the spoiler), he reverts back to Light Yagami after losing the notebook. To me, he WAS changed by the notebook, though he did know what he was doing....... All in all, I think that the final victim of Kira was Light Yagami.

Actually,Light's way was the only working way, he said it himself, police is not effective. There were thousands of unsold cases, and there were hundreds of criminals, which were guilty,but they were set free, because they had a good layer,a lot of money or they pretend to be insane. But when he started to kill them, number of crimes decreased. Even L couldn't do that.

Lights extremely chidlish in his feelings about criminals, he seems unaware of the possibility of redemption and the sacredness of life. L has a much more mature view of life, realizing that its not the place of human beings to determine whether people should live or die and that a human trying to comprehend the will of a god is ridiclous and impossible. Lights intentions for humanity were good, but his way of carrying things out was dasterdly and deserving of punishment.
