thanks for your instructions. i have a 66 pontiac that needs the regulator to be replaced. the voltage gauge is sometimes at or below the half way mark. the battery is brand new, alternator was replaced two days ago, and the battery is being drained. im hoping the new regulator will solve this problem.
@Ronsky89 On a 50 year old car it's anybodies guess where the bad wiring is. I'd suggest using a voltage meter and check the various wires for a live lead with the key off.
I'm hoping that the wiring under the dash hasn't been hacked up by some highschool kid, otherwide I'd suggest getting a replacement harness from the hot rod market.
@woodlandcammo27 It depends on whether you plan to keep the truck. If it's an old winter beater I'd just screw it a mount into the lower dash. If you plan on keeping it, there are a bunch of different manufacturers that build guage kits for classic trucks.
I actually have a 1962 Galaxie but Ford kept the principals the same. I have a 25 to 30 amp Borg Warner on it right now. It has 3 mechanical contactors that can be filed and adjusted. I may take some fine grit paper and try to clean it up but it looks to be not burnt. I am getting very low voltage in my solenoid starter wire. I jumped a wire from my positive to the solenoid start post and she started to turn over and just needed gas. I may just jump her that way wjile my friend pumps the gas.
What symptoms did your truck have? I have a 62 ford and by lights started flickering and the whole car died. Now it will not start or even turn the headlights on. I have 11.5 volts when 550 cranking amps is applied (had my battery tested). I replaced and cleaned my ground. Now I am suspecting the voltage regulator.
@woodlandcammo27 My voltage guage showed it was only putting out 11 volts while I was driving down the highway. I knew the guages were right so that told me the regulator had gone out.
If your lights were flickering and then died, and your battery was only being charged to 11 volts, that's your regulator. As for your truck not starting, replace your regulator to get your system back the way it's supposed to be and try that before spending more money.

I also wanted to know where a good spot was to put an aftermarket voltage gauge connection. I have all the room and possibilities in the world.
