thanks for sharing this short and extremely important video with us, we would have appreciated it to be much longer than 3 min to get more out of saito sensei who had been during his life the guardian of the temple. nevertheless, the footage really helps aikido instructors to explain in more details the roots and the basics of the most simple and also the most difficult technique shomen uchi ikkyo.

no disrespect i enjoy always watching aikido, could you explain what they do against a boxer throwing jab. straight out and pulling back . thank you drohegda

If the opponent can deliverer a throwing jab the distance is to close. When that is the case in Aikido you initiate, so we dont wait because a strike from opponent in a short distance is really fast In Aikido we initiate in short desistance to draw the opponent out, to get his blocking arm, the chin, fingers or just throw him, whatever.. NOTE. The technique in the video is a pre- arranged training, like a kata.

Initiating the Shomen Uchi is a tricky part in the Aikido community.

It totally makes since to me, but some people see it as attacking.
