considering this woofer is out of its enclosure and just sitting there.... what the hell did you expect it to sound like? and as this dude said its from the 70's, i wud say its still working fairly well... put it in its original inclosure and set it up **correctly** and see how it sounds. i own 2 pairs of bose (301 and 901) and wen they are set up correctly they sound amazing, and they're both 20 years old.

Bose isn't bad, but Klipsch is the power house when it comes to speakers.

Klipsch speakers are just loud. Their horn tweeter distorts the treble and makes it dominate way too much. If you want true sound quality, you gotta get Paradigm, Wharfedale, or PSB just to name a few.

Also, if you put these 3 brands up against Bose's speakers and heard them, you'd then think Bose is actually "bad."

The stock NSXR10 speakers are fairly crap (bass cancellation problems and no tweeter) but my brother's micro system (can't remember the model name) has some of the best sounding small speakers I've heard. They have deep bass response (6" long port) and crisp sound though possibly lacking a bit in the lower mids.

Also, Sony is good, but you have to get the right kind, along with Yamaha. Don't go to Best Buy; they carry oddball models of their amps.
