@Machdude Anime isn't banned in China. If it was, you wouldn't see it on their TV stations nor would there be all those DVDs on store shelves.

You can't catch new stuff anymore because it is banned. Reruns still air but for the most current stuff, they need to go on the internet. Stores and stuff still stock something like that because there are always customers but China blacklists Japanese entertainment these days.

@Machdude The only anime I'm aware of that they ban is Death Note. Other than that, nothing. And I wouldn't consider any anime banned if plenty of it is on store shelves and on sites like Tudou and Youku.

Have you ever looked at their live broadcasts? There is no anime on there unless it is stuff that caters to kids from back during the stone age. Kamen Rider and Super Sentai is banned (they rip it off instead and pass it as new).

Also, the internet is not live broadcast. It can be based anywhere and is just linked by a code. Fact is, all that anime could also either have been fansubbed or just an HK dub. Decidely not China.

@Machdude Not airing much anime and creating ripoffs is not the same thing as a ban. China does some dubbing of its own and imports a lot from Taiwan. If I hear anime dubbed into Mandarin, it certainly isn't a fansub or a Cantonese dub.

No, they literally did issue a ban. Your mainstream stuff, Tokusatsu, etc, most of it are not imported because it would detract from "China quality TV". Its both nationalistic and economic driven, they will not do it. Maybe from Taiwan because y'know, they still consider Taiwan part of China so they will sometimes go there. But Japan? You are getting ntohing new from them over there.
