@DanceRock2009 I don't think that was what he meant. They all tried to stop the fire - DK included. I think he said that, because everybody was shocked that it was on fire and they probably thought of the problems they could get without the board. And that is what he meant with "The board is not the town." They can make it without the board.

That's just how I get it. Maybe I'm wrong.

But you're absolutely right! It could have been dangerous for the kids!

@sugarmouseable That ladder looks to be one of the most unsturdy, unbalanced ladders I've seen. It's the old-fashioned kind that balances against another surface, not one than can hold your weight on its own. They probably used it with extreme caution to get a few shots of the kids on it hammering the names into the board, and then had some intern do it on a more modern ladder. Regardless, it was still a handy device to keep the kids from getting too close to the fire in this episode.

@gtresw I don't think it's scripted, but it's heavily editted and I believe lots of their conversations had to be influenced/suggested by producers. For example, I don't think that everyone start talking about religion on their own the exact day there was an entry in a journal about it.

There were more reasons, the lack of supervision, conditions the kids were living in, and that some kids accidentally drank bleach, although I dont know if I believe that, they would have been in the hospital of that were the case.
