  • in the words of rodney king "can't we all just get along?"

  • Lolo Jones is awesome. Absolute Pure competitor & shouldve been the winner. SHOULD being the key word.

  • is she white

  • Kind of. But her daddy is black.

  • GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Grow up from what? What the hell are talking about. Her mother is white and her father is black! Are you offended? I think you are the one who needs to grow up.

  • There is no such thing a a white or black person. We are human and for that matter what does it matter? She is an attractive woman regardless of her who her parents are. GROW UP!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh, I can see you are from Fantasyland.

Really, stating your heritage or the skin color of your parents has never been a shameful thing. The only stigma comes from those with small closed minds and who have issues with dealing with skin color.

I never said she was not attractive. If you ask me, she is beautiful. Just maybe you might your own issues to deal with here.

  • My only issue is that you and everyone else like you need to understand that there is no such thing as race when it comes to humans Human is the race. So to talk about her in terms of what category she belongs in is not necessary. She is in the only category that is accurately available; Human

  • The reality is people will categorize you whether you like it or not. They will categorize you by race, religion, education, income, marital status, alleged sexual preference, credit score, etc...Get over it.

Yes, we are all human. Duh! And it would be nice if people did not put VALUE JUDGMENTS according a person's color or heritage. And I hope that is what you are really upset about.

  • Anyway, she is what she is...and that is a beautiful person who has overcome a lot in her life. Yes, she is outwardly beautiful but I found out she is also a beautiful person inside as well. And that is what really counts.

  • I just wish people would not refer to people by some arbitrary category. In my opinion it is ok to describe someone by physical attributes if there is a lack of a visual, but it is not ok to label someone.

  • There is nothing that should be negative about describing a person according to their heritage. She is a combination of black and white. That is neither disgraceful nor is it an unusual combination. And obviously it is a beautiful combination as well.

  • I don't know about you but this becomes really silly to me and makes know sense and to me only servers as a way to keep people apart artificially.

I am a scientist (Physics and Biology) and all of you that have subscribe to this line of thinking have been fooled by the very people that want you separated to keep them in power over you. There is no such thing as race when it comes to humans we all look different on the surface because of human migration over thousands of years.

  • I don't really know how to tackle the reality of separation among human beings. But it is a fact. We see each other in terms of color, ethnicity, nationality, religion, etc...that is just a fact of life. Most people choose their friends, social affiliations, churches, neighborhoods, and mates according to their own group. And, as you know, racially discrimination has played a huge part in history even up to the present day.

  • Racial identification may be false based on the fact that we are human beings. But it is an almost inescapable fact of life.

The problem is not in identifying someone's racial heritage. The problem is that we have this thing we call ignorance and prejudice and that we arbitrarily assign negative, exaggerated or outright untrue value judgments to certain groups. People really do buy into that and hold tight to those things.

Otherwise there is nothing wrong with being identified with any group.

  • ok you seem to agree that there is only one race. So the rest of what you said is the ignorance of everyone else so why don't you be one of the few that reject the notion of referring to anyone other that their name and if necessary; their physical description?

  • I don't reject the ethnic descriptions or labels. Nothing is wrong with pointing out that some is white, black, brown, yellow, mix or whatever. Her background is black, white, and native American. That is what she is. There is no pejoratives implicit in any part of ethnic heritage. The only negativity comes from what a primitive, background and diseased mind attaches to those portions of her heritage.

  • I must be talking to two people with the same user name because one of you admitted that there is no such thing as race but that most people want to cling to some group to feel good about them selves and the second person keeps using the term "Black" in the face of no one on the planet including LoLo has black skin. This is my last reply you can have the last word if you want but people like you is why we will never evolve past our primitive ability to relate. I wish you well; its been fun.

  • technically no one has white skin either. black and white terms are conventions and they dont need to be very accurate to be useful.

  • Since you are new to reply I will reply to you and end this thing because is going nowhere. Those terms are only useful to keep people separated. If we would just talk to and about people with out the labels you would see a change. I did this experiment with a group of kids and they created friendships that would have never happened with labels in affect.

  • No, one person. You are just unable to accept the world for what it is and understand how most people think.

Trust me, if you conduct that same experiment with those kids as teenagers you will see that most of them will be very well indoctrinated into what society labels them. Most, if not all, of their friends will be the same color as them; or they will hang out with groups that are most like them, believe what they believe, and have the same social outlook.

It is frustrating, but it true.

  • i dont think labels are enough to seaparate people. what these terms describe may have a contibution.

  • You are right. Labels are not enough to separate us. But ignorance, fear, and primitive tribalism is what separates us.

  • And if you ask them to describe someone, you know as well as I do they will include the person's color in that description.

Yes, it would be nice if could actually be colorblind, but I don't think we will ever really be. And, even if we are all someday as mixed as Lolo Jones, I am sure we will find some other excuse to label and categorize each other. That is the ugly part of human nature that I don't believe will ever go way.

  • You are absolutely right. I used to think it would be great if there was so much racial intermarriage that racial distinctions would become meaninless. But, if people don't have race, they will simply rely more on other factors to differentiate themselves (e.g., wealth, nationality, religion, sex, etc.)

  • The fact that there is one human race and that we all come from a single common ancestor is fact.

However, human beings are tribal. Most of us will always have some level of comfort with what we perceive ourselves to be, where we come from, and who we think we are.

In the the absence of a competing humanoid species, we will always find excuses to cling to our ethnic heritage, skin color, national or regional origin, and religious affiliations at the expense of recognizing our common humanity.

  • In other words your heart may be in the right place and what you say makes a good amount of sense. But in the face of reality your stance on this issue is a bit naive and quixotic. And on the particular subject at hand regarding what Lolo Jones ethnic heritage is, you seem a bit self-righteous.

Anyway, she is what is. And even though she lost today I still think she is the best 100M hurdler in the world. And she is very, very beautiful.

  • 'There is no such thing as a white or black person' - don't talk bloody nonsense; it's a waste of everybody's time.

  • I guess you are another one that see someone with brown skin and the says that person is Black. How much nonsense is that. Waste of time; I guess the truth is a waste of time

  • I am not sure where you are coming from , however, you seem to take no issue with the fact that is of French and Norwegian heritage on her mother's sides. But once it is mention that her father is African-American then you seem to want to suppress that information. Nothing is wrong with being black or identify one's self as black. We come in all colors from ebony to even lighter than Lolo here. And we are not ashamed of it. Get over it.

  • I guess I am not making myself clear enough so I will get us on the same page by asking questions. How can you be black if you skin is brown and how can you be white when you skin is not white? How can your heritage be a color? Example question: How can you have two people with the same skin color, one of those people becomes a color ( aka "black") and the other is referred to by their country or parents country of origin (aka "Indian").

  • I am taking issue with those that use the term Black. The others you mentioned are countries not a color. Had you listed a country in Africa, I would not have much of a problem. Except that the term African-American is inaccurate. By this logic Charlize Theron if she is now or ever becomes an American would be considered African-American.
