My favorite part of this record was the pure emotion that you can hear.
Hetfields voice at the end of All Within My Hands where he starts yelling "Kill Kill Kill Kill" It...it has something that feeds your anger
Or when he breaks down with his "Get the Fuck out of here~" in this song, the way he said might not be great but it was raw and a straight foreword. The steal drums, I'll be in class stomping my foot away to Sweet Amber or Frantic.
So really, This is a diff record to feed the emotion
this is actually a really good song u just gotta listen to it a bunch than u will like it metallica is the greatest metal band ever so a big fuck you to all the haters go get fucked u losers
James said it's about anxiety, but anxiety covers a pretty wide range of things. I guess that's why to everyone it means something different and yet feels specific. Myself, having spent 13 years of abuse and humiliation until my father left... good ridance... the song is about how every failure, every setback, brings all those feelings back again... worthlessness, self hate for not fighting back even though I couldn't... worse things... it all comes back.
'st.anger' has a 'unnamed feeling' and he has a sister and her name is 'sweet amber' she is an 'invisible kid' and she is looking out the 'dirty window' and she sees 'some kind of monster' and then gets 'frantic'. than she says. i cant do any thing 'all within my hands'. its 'my world'
Like the top comment above, I've related to this song so much. And I've cried to it, cuz all of the stress that built up, this song helped me vent it out due to the relativity I have with the lyrics.
Thanks Metallica, this song is why I would love you thru the good and thru the bad.
weve all been there before James..some liked it some didnt and some dont fucking care..the feeling we have inside us all guides us to some point of sanity.
@amcoho4 what about the black album? and another thing just because its different doesn't mean its bad it just shows a lot of people are afraid of change and different from the past
@wertyuioman in their world magnetic tour they played one song from this album just six times out of 186 shows. even metallica themselves knows it sucks.
i've got bipolar, so my unnamed feeling is what i feel in a mixed mood/emotional state. imagine fucking hating someone/something and feeling the most intense love for it at the same time, while speeding and being depressed at the same time. its fucking wild, the type of thing no one teaches you in school!!
every album they ever did was for them, and they have always been honest about that, its been stated if u wanna come along for the ride and u dig it then great if not then great whatever, they dont care, and i love that about them
I used to be like some of the people that talk shit about this album........It is one of those albums were you kinda have to grow on it before you like it, I like anything metallica has ever done EVER and the way i see it is that metallica did great on this! cause it helps alot of people with issues and it helps me with mine
@ThrashMetalZach I agree with you. I bought the album back in 03 and I didn't like it at all. I listend to it once and then left it in a drawer. Months later I felt like listening to some of it again and that's when I finally "got" it. It's one of the albums that people don't get right away. you have to listen to it a few time before you start to get the hang of it.
@DeathMetalMorty fuck you! its mainstream and it still kicks ass. it doesnt matter if you like it or not, listen to it or not, METALLICA still kicks ass..
@X55 lou reed is pretty out there, i dont know why they would request or accepted the request to make an album with him. Metallica used to be fast and heavy but now they suck.
To me, the unnamed feeling is this: That part of your brain that tells you "you aren't good enough." That you will never accomplish anything. It is always beating you down, brutally punishing you for every little mistake. It eats at you until you feel empty and alone. It makes you hate every fiber of your being.
I have never related to any song more than I have to this one. Thank you Metallica.
St. Anger. One of the most epic and untouched metal albums in the history of the genre. This album was my bible when it came out. Finally some people who felt as fucking nuts as I did.

October 15th 2011 is the 30th Anniversary of Metallica's formation. They have influenced alot of great bands that stand today. As they work on what is believed to be their LAST Studio album, instead of hating on other fools, hear me out this time.

Thats what makes Metallica a unique band. other than the amazing guitars and drums. but there lyrics talk about what they and other people had and have trouble with in they're lives.
@shreddintheaxe read the top comments on this vid cuz acorrding to them and wikia and the metallica wedsite chuck norris god jesus me and 1800 other people no one cares wat you think.. did i mention chuck norris's goldfish the megaladon
@CliffordLeBurton and yet i don't give a fuck what you think or say. i must not be a true metallica fans cause this shit sucks. it get's very old listening to lars bang on trash can lids. not to mention this record had the worst guitar playing i ever heard. now i'm gonna go listen to master of puppets. a real metallica record.
@shreddintheaxe This album was quite different from Metallica's normal style to be certain, but if one is to examine it from a non biased view it can be quite good, think of it as what your thoughts would be if this was an album from a band you hadn't heard before, not Metallica. Instrumentally it isn't strong to be certain, but it seems to me, especially with this piece, they really struck on the raw nature of a rage-like depression, and that, in itself, is commendable.
Love this song. This is why I love Metallica... they can create a song that relates to any mood that I am in. Fuck the people that don't like this album or that said they sold out. Well yes they did sell out twice, both times they sold out (the 4 albums with Bob Rock influence then the kissing up to the fans album Death Magnetic) their music sounded great and had real meaning to it.
god every time i hear this song (especially the heavier chorus parts) my muscles get all tense and ready to either throw some knockout punches or mosh until i cant feel my legs
@GoJays09 Your right! This album had nothing to do with the metallica fans. This was there own personal therapy. If people don't like this, who cares! This was not about them. This was about getting something off their chest! Who cares if people get it or not!!
@Wondermouth1 I think people have trouble admitting they've been here before. The way our society treats us it's like it's wrong to admit you've felt negative emotion in the past. People do what metallica did for so many years and drink shoot or smoke it all away. That attitude makes people believe that this is wrong, to express the Unnamed Feeling. I think it took courage to write a song like this because of the way the world sees the expression of emotion, metallica will always be amazing.
@Wondermouth1 If it's just for "them" why did they decide to market it and sell it? Why not just have it for themselves to listen to? The fact is, as soon as they decided to release it, the intent should have been to please the fans. Fans of Metallica and just good music in general expected a great metal album, instead we got...this fiasco. This album came out during my freshman year of high school. I can tell you that EVERYONE I knew hated it...and it wasn't because it got bad reviews.
i could write horror stories to this song...i almost instantly think of a dead forest filled with fog, with some sort of Lovecraftian creature that wears the face of a human stalking people in the forest...
the album is supossed to be like a garage band just jamming in their garage with no worries.....people hated it.....badly,but they just do not know good music
i think a lot of people didnt like this album not because it wasnt what they expected, but because its raw, gritty, unrefined, and frankly not nearly as pretty as most of the rest of their music
The reason this album is hated because its not metallica writing thrash metal, (if you can even call this album metal). Its a bad album, but every band has a real stinker. For Megadeth, Risk was utter crap. For Iron Maiden, Virtual X is an album to leave on the shelf. Slayer- Diabolus in Musica, ETC. If people do like this song, then whatever. All based on opinion.
Your either a fan of Metallica or your turning tricks on the corner. Don't say you like some albums then not like others. You either grow with a band or you step the f**k off. I grew up with them I have spent more money on their shows in my life then any of you spend on rent in a year. \m/
@1jakeyjake that is true dude im 15 right now and since im like 2 or 3 my has been playin some metallica in his computer, you either grow with them or go to hell
@1jakeyjake that is true dude im 15 right now and since im like 2 or 3 my dad has been playin some metallica in his computer, you either grow with them or go to hell
I don't care what people say, I'm a true fan of Metallica, I love all of their albums, and to me some of my favorite songs by them are on this album. Hence the name XDD
i dont feel ashamed to accept that i cried to this song .... coz i can completely relate to "the unnamed feeling".... this song is my life n my life is this song..... i never knew a song ever existed for what i feel right now..... n now i know it does... i know i have hetfield and Metallica with me..... \m/((**))\m/
@max81990 I totally agree I have suffered through "The Unnamed Feeling". This is my least favorite Metallica record. But my God this song means so much to me I can only begin to put it into words. I dare say this song saved my life and showed me that there are other people who have suffered with me in their own personal hells and how to persevere. I wish I could thank Hetfield personally for the lyrics in this song, and that I know the sinister powers of The Unnamed Feeling and what he felt.
Sounds kind of like music from that era when this was released. Except way better! Hate "Nu Metal" shit. This has that sound to a degree but I like it still. Someone on YouTube a few years back once said that this album will sound like Metallica's most dated album as the years go by. I think he's right. I can start to hear it already. Nevertheless, I like it. Just glad they fired Bob Rock after this. Their last album they sound more original again.
I think all of Metallica's songs are epically Awesome. You have to pay attention to the lyrics as well as the music. Sometimes you just have listen to some of their songs a couple of times to learn to really appreciate them.
Dont get mad at me but i like this album better than the black album, i dont care that there were no solos, it had a ton of emotion and is just kickass, but no album beats Kill em All \m/
I belive anyone that dislikes st. anger or any of Metallica's music is not a true fan of this historic band. Support your favorites and unite to overthrow the evil pop stars of today.
@MrStoneddanny it kinda has to either be that, or that James just had his voice for backups recorded and played while the played or something. they tend to do that on studio versions, I believe... obviously not on stage though X .
@MrStoneddanny it kinda has to either be that, or that James just had his voice for backups recorded and played while the played or something. they tend to do that on studio versions, I believe... obviously not on stage though X.
In my opinion, all of Metallica's albums are great. This album took some getting used to but the more I listen to it, the more appreciation I have for it. Awsome piece of work for sure. :D
@Gen1cummins1992 Dude I was the same way! I put it in my car one day because it was something different and I was digging it the more I listened to it!
The sad thing is Metallica will always be afraid to try new things like this now. This album had a lot flaws, but it wasn't the music at all. They just needed a better producer to suit the genre. Flemming Rasmussen brought out the good 80's Metallica, and I think Bob Rock brought out the good 90's Metallica, but he just wasn't a good choice for St. Anger. Ross Robinson might have been a good one.
@richt3211 I kind of agree, Until it sleeps is about the horrors of cancer or it being inside the body, Then Unnamed Feeling is the feeling you feel before going insane or losing control. There are similar and are both good songs
i love the other songs on st anger because the emotion makes me feel like im repeatedly being kicked in the nads by james het. this one has a different appeal for me. it makes me feel like im having a heartfelt emotional talk with him. either way, it's my fave on the album.
hey! does anyone else think there might be hidden messages in those odd, twisted and crunched up words they make us type when we leave too many comments?
@piemanbeatle wow. a simple, honest question gets "douchbag" as a response?.... hmmm.... i think you're the douchebag... so we're even, dipshit. ooooh you're a dipshit, too. so i guess this veers off into a cyber battle over nothing, huh? i guess we also have to argue over who's a bigger metallica fan as well. how about we skip all that and you just take two steps back and literally FUCK YOUR OWN FACE. bye bye now.

@GoJays09 Your right! This album had nothing to do with the metallica fans. This was there own personal therapy. If people don't like this, who cares! This was not about them. This was about getting something off their chest! Who cares if people get it or not!!
Wondermouth1 7 months ago 57

I can tell you that EVERYONE I knew hated it...and it wasn't because it got bad reviews.

while it might not be the best or likable of their albums, the sheer artistic power and emotion can't be denied

i could write horror stories to this song...i almost instantly think of a dead forest filled with fog, with some sort of Lovecraftian creature that wears the face of a human stalking people in the forest...
spenceamos 7 months ago
the album is supossed to be like a garage band just jamming in their garage with no worries.....people hated it.....badly,but they just do not know good music
theslayersociety 7 months ago
i think a lot of people didnt like this album not because it wasnt what they expected, but because its raw, gritty, unrefined, and frankly not nearly as pretty as most of the rest of their music
reeceJyoung 7 months ago
i 2 can relate to this great song!
rinoman2783 7 months ago
The reason this album is hated because its not metallica writing thrash metal, (if you can even call this album metal). Its a bad album, but every band has a real stinker. For Megadeth, Risk was utter crap. For Iron Maiden, Virtual X is an album to leave on the shelf. Slayer- Diabolus in Musica, ETC. If people do like this song, then whatever. All based on opinion.

Alright St. Anger sucked huge amounts of chode. But this is EASILY the best song off it.

I love metallica, EVERY SINGLE SONG, each song has its own meaning and feeling Metallica forever!

Your either a fan of Metallica or your turning tricks on the corner. Don't say you like some albums then not like others. You either grow with a band or you step the f**k off. I grew up with them I have spent more money on their shows in my life then any of you spend on rent in a year. \m/

Dont get mad at me but i like this album better than the black album, i dont care that there were no solos, it had a ton of emotion and is just kickass, but no album beats Kill em All \m/

bigbear159 10 months ago
The sad thing is Metallica will always be afraid to try new things like this now. This album had a lot flaws, but it wasn't the music at all. They just needed a better producer to suit the genre. Flemming Rasmussen brought out the good 80's Metallica, and I think Bob Rock brought out the good 90's Metallica, but he just wasn't a good choice for St. Anger. Ross Robinson might have been a good one.
jeslee213 10 months ago
To me, this song and Until it Sleeps have similar lyrics, anybody else see that?
richt3211 10 months ago
@richt3211 I kind of agree, Until it sleeps is about the horrors of cancer or it being inside the body, Then Unnamed Feeling is the feeling you feel before going insane or losing control. There are similar and are both good songs
