  • He played two songs at the same time because he was in a hurry to get the show over. He had shit to do.

  • How about trying to play one song and make it good before attempting 2 at the same time. This guy is a great player of course but it always seems hes trying do too much by playing too fast or here, trying to play 2 songs.

  • It helps having Chet Atkins as a mentor.

  • i believe

  • Tommy can hold his own with any player on the planet! Period! Seeing how incredible he is on an acoustic, I shudder to think of what he could do on an electric guitar!

  • @joeguitargod why...? He's a mainly acoustic player, why would playing on an electric automatically make him better?

  • This guy is great. but has the worst sounding guitar i think i have ever heard... i had a silvertone guitar when i was 10 that cost 35$ new that sounded better! what brand is it...

  • @2t123 yoo...don't blame the sound...blame the video..it's unofficial video. same thing like you go to a concert and using your video recorder to tape . what kind of sound do you expect to come out?

  • I could hardly believe my ears when I first heard Tommy. Then when I went to the first of many concerts and saw him do things like this live, I was blown away. A master of the guitar!

  • Hi Tommy,nice guitar.GARY V.

  • The only living C.G.P. in the world!

  • Amazing

  • And God said " Let there be a great Guitar Player" and then he created TOMMY EMMANUEL...!... the VIRTUOSO, Master!....Mercy

  • Chet did it, yes, but Tommy is an Aussie and put a blues lick in there. Bless his pea pickin' heart. Guitar playing has come a long way since the Master (Chet) left us. Chet showed us the way...

  • I'm in love!

  • Chet played this

  • @bobbelan And at full speed- I saw it and still cant believe it over 25 yrs later

  • Yep, but he lives in America now, our gain.

  • this technique is called moving bass. he uses the same technique in his song Blue Moon

  • I Love the Bend he does at 0:49 But Tommy is absolute Inspirational! Makes me proud to be Australian :)

  • truly a Guitar God with humor!

  • Great statement with a deeper meaning to it!

  • haha nice i göteborg

  • its yankee doodle dixie by chet atkins,

  • Wow, what r the song titles?

  • @MusoJTM yankee doodle dixie

  • @AverySmithGuitar

haha at first i thought this was an insult hahaha but yeh you're right thanks :D

  • @MusoJTM u welcome:)

  • MARCEL DADI TRIBUTE ......

  • big hit on the Mason-Dixon line I'm guessing :)

  • Hes great! Thank you so much!

  • Chet did it first

  • Incredible.

  • This was originally done by chet atkins about 40 years ago. It's actually not very hard to do. Not hard to find the tab either. It's called Yankee Doodle Dixie. When you practice it, you can't think of it as being two different songs at once. Think of it as just one song.

  • Can it get any better than this

  • He has got to be the happiest guy ive ever seen to be on stage XD he's having a blast!

  • THAT WAS THE MOST AMAZING THING I'VE EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "I got the sitar going!" HahaXD He's the greatest ever!:-)

  • C.G.P....!!

  • no loop... have a look at the Bass-line... - he is still the best...

  • i think the thumb is actually part of a conjoinded twin that he hides under his shirt

  • this is called independence between the thumb and the other fingers.. =O

  • Im not telling that you must be a drummer and guitarist to be able to play this, but I think that you must practise a lot

  • @FeatherBowl

    No...really?

  • This isn't the first time that plays two melodys together.Day Tripper is combination of two melodys(with thumb he plays riff, and with other fingers a melody.

I think that he can do that because he is also a drummer.

  • Amazing

  • tommy is just showing wat us aussies do best :-)

  • Marcel Dadi invented this tune (these 2 songs at the same time)

  • This is absolutely fantastic.......

  • @1972myrkt

Then I can make you like him even more by telling you that he's not using a loop! :)

The melody to loop should then have to be the first. But look at his thumb when he plays the second melody. It plays the first and the other fingers playes the second.

  • @1972myrkt I don't think so. He uses a technique bass/melody, the bass is the 1st song and the melody is the 2nd for the whole playing. Hard to play...and to conceive... sincerely, this man is not only a virtuoso, he has thought it with unique taste.

  • @1972myrkt I don't think it's a looper. First song being done as a baseline using thumb and possibly first finger, second song done by remaining fingers.

  • @1972myrkt I've been to a Tommy Emmanuel workshop, trust me he really isn't! I was taken back by how easily he does it.

  • @1972myrkt

that´s an old Chet Atkins thing, he really does this. There´s a little Film bout Tommy and his brother on Youtube, watch that, it´s worth it ;)

  • @1972myrkt

that´s an old Chet Atkins thing, he really does this. There´s a little Film bout Tommy and his brother on Youtube, watch that, it´s worth it ;)

  • @c4rver3 "And the guy shit! The guy absolutely shit!"

  • @1972myrkt

he is not using loop...it is not impossible to play yankee doodle dixie....even I with only 4 years experience have learned it...

  • @1972myrkt how can you think he's using a loop, are u crazy? Watch carefully his thumb going at tempo with the base part, just because he is playing it! ;D Anyway as Tommy said in an interview some years ago "Somebody asked me if something or someone is playing with me, that means I'm doing it in the right way!".

  • @1972myrkt i'd add another thing, you can see the video n. 6 of the interview called True Stories here on youtube, where he plays it in front of the camera right in the beginning. In the video n.5 he also explains together with his brother a funny story where he played this when he was a boy in front of his sport's teacher in Parkes High School after the teacher - mad about the fact he and his brother did not do sports, asked him to prove his skill on the guitar. And the teacher was speechless.

  • @1972myrkt I have seen Tommy Live and I can tell you that he is a God and doesn't use a looper. He is one of the greatest of our time.

  • @1972myrkt I've personally seen him performing this same piece. It is safe to say he doesn't use a looper...

  • @1972myrkt I've seem Tommy play several times. He absolutely does NOT use a looper.

  • @1972myrkt there is no looper, when i met him i asked him if he could show me that cuz i thought the same thing for the longest time. he did it perfectly with no amp.

  • @1972myrkt at the very beginning it LOOKS like he's using a looper, but thats because the video is slightly out of sync, and tommy's hand is above the neck of the guitar and it looks like he's just pointing athis guitar but he's actually playing the notes with his index finger

  • @1972myrkt

Macel Dadi has played the same song: watch?v=NBjs42Y4SYg

  • @1972myrkt That was a huge compliment to Tommy cause he's not using any looper

  • @1972myrkt Sorry dude. I saw Tommy play this in 1983 at a pub in Dee Why, on Sydney's northern beaches. He was playing an acoustic and I was less than seven feet from him. It's the real deal dude. Suck it up. The man is genuine guitar genius.

  • bloody legend

  • tommy is too good........

  • It's called Yankee Doodle Dixie, an Old Chet trick. There's tabs out there.

  • Tommy OWNS

period period period period period period

he´s got a neverending repertoire which i´ve been listening for hours

    (Oh my god It´s 6:00 AM !!!!!!!! )

  • LOL @ "I got the citar going!"

  • so damn skilled

  • The two songs he plays are "Yankee Doodle " and I believe the other song is "Dixieland" . I saw and heard Tommy do this live over a year ago. This man's talent is unmatched. He is unbelieveable to see and hear!

  • thx

  • wich songs does he play?

  • this is mind blowing. Playing a tune with your thumb while playing another with your other fingers. This dudes brain and fingers are wired differently from us mere humans

  • @zeyoske Nope, he has just been playing/touring for around 50 years. Tommy and his brother used to fall asleep with their guitars in their hands when they were just kids. Can you imagine the hours he has put into playing guitar?

  • @zeyoske I can see that he also uses some harmonics

  • @zeyoske thought he was just using a loop pedal -__-

  • Learned from the master, Mr Chet Atkins.

  • @NYVoice I heard Chet do this in Phx Az - Truly amazing
