just to straighten things out, the first position has the tone completely rolled off and it is bassy, in the middle position you can change the tone with the tone knob, and the last is the tone completely on. I believe this is correct. sorry if i am wrong ! :-)
Man I used to be completely anti-Mexican Fenders - but this guitar really seems to sparkle - that's impressive! I'm buying a Maverick 2x12 tomorrow. I'm pretty pumped.
To answer all you guys question about the pick up selector. The bridge position lets you be able to use the pickup with the tone knob and gives you the lovely twang. the middle position is a more bluesier bb king style sound with the tone selector cut off. and the neck position is almost like a very bassy sound with the tone also cut off. Back in the 50s when electric guitars came out. They hadnt made electric basses yet so bassist used this guitar with the selector on the neck position.
these are great, i bought one one day, but ended up taking it back due to prominent bad fretout problems that no one could seem to fix on 17, 18, 19. drove me nuts, so back it went. but i will be looking for another one you can count on it. the sound is awesome. very versatile, and relatively no excess noise of the pup.
I am impressed with the bite and sound of this guitar. I have been to the factory in Ensenda Baja Ca and the workers take a lot of pride in their work. Nice playing. . and tone. . . Thanks. . .
@fruhotchiliman PMFJI - On Esquires I've played the selector runs through a capacitor or something and dulls down the tone - a "mock" neck PU. One setting bypasses the tone knob altogether but I can't remember if it's forward or back.
@fruhotchiliman the rear position is the pickup bypassing the tone...middle position activates the tone pot...and the neck position has a capacitor simulating the tone being off
@fruhotchiliman yes it does...the sound is like having the tone all the way off ...but you cant adjust the tone in that positon...but you can in the middle position...so you can have 3 different amounts of brightness in the tone w/ out having to turn the tone knob...pretty cool i think :D
Great, great taste with your phrasing! This is about the 30th video I have watched of yours and they have all been very entertaining. I am soaking it up man ... thanks for taking the effort to share all this. For the creative quality you are averaging, the amount of videos you have up is pretty prolific. I am using them as a tone library now. Thanks!
Hi, I have a Mexican re-issued Esquire that has a great deal of 'hum' just plugging it in & it is very thin even in the neck position. I'd like to change the stock pickup for something noise-free & with more depth, any suggestions?
they him a lot - also, you sure its an esquire? the esquire has no neck pup. If you mean a tele (same thing but with the neck pup) then use the bridge pup or check out Bareknuckle Pickups singlecoils
I just can't get enough of your playing! Such amazing inflection and tone, and more importantly, it looks like your having a blast. Thanks for sharing!!
Don't quote me but I believe that the first position modifies the tone so it is very bassy, the middle position is standard, and the last bypasses the tone altogether to give it a bit more punch and bite for a hot lead tone.
