the sound, the feel...Gretsch has the feel I can't really put a finger on (or drumstick for that matter) besides have you seen how Gretsch drums are made? Check it out here on YT. theres only like 4 people working on a single drum. My 800 dollar catalina maple sounds incredible for what it's worth!

Seriously guys, there is no "better" sounding kit. It depends on what sound you're after. Yes, this 40th Anniversary kit sounds awesome. Yes, the Pearl Reference sounds awesome. And yes, the Tama Warlord kit sounds awesome. However, what if I want a more vintage maple sounding kit? I'm not gonna go with any of those.
