I think it's a newer 12HP Tecumseh OHV single cylinder. I think they call them enduro. Definitely fires up like a teccy with that little hesitation before it catches on.

Sounds like a briggs starter and the shut down sounded like a briggs, engine idle at lower than normal rpm suggests a twin cylinder. Its etheir a vanguard or intek briggs ohv 16-20 hp.
