Viewing the video, I think chains are a problem much bigger than the possibles advantages of the new method. It literally seems like plowing the ground, and chains deadly damage all the sesil organisms that are under it, invertebrates and vertebrates (3:40) too.
@zuzouno This particular trial was just one small part of a wider-ranging project. The idea was to get fishermen to willingly adopt new conservation measures through social science. You can read the results of the project by visiting the cefas.defra.gov.uk site and using the search terms PROJECT 50 PERCENT.
