  • Very familiar with this drive, I lived in Portage in the early 90's....

  • The Portage area is so beautiful

  • instantaneous land drop, well, a few seconds maybe

  • Okay..I'm a little confused. Was it an instantaneous land drop or was it due to liqeufaction?

  • it was do to the fact that when the earthquake hit the whole area just dropped do to the tectonic plates moving and then the tidal wave slammed in not to much later. Same thing happened in the knik flats, the knik flats use to be known as the hay flats cause farmers did alot of hey farming and it the earthquake actually wiped out a whole town by the name of Matanuska and another town named Knik. It was a massive earth quake and between the quake and the tidal waves it did ALOT of damage!
