Does anybody know if you can do this with 2 or 3 different sounds rather than going through the same process everytime? Sure it's easily done, i'm just being blonde :D
@JAKEIZBAWM the same way, just plug it in.. don't be so literal with the tutorial, experiment, you can put anything through anything for the most part and still get the same effect with that splitter and compressor.
at the side of the spider where you put the first kick drum add one more there and they both should dampen the line you're side chaining, I'm not completely sure but i think that it should work.
wow... i was side chaining whilst editing the automation on the main mixer for what track which was to sidechain, well the volume to be precise :P took longer than the song itself... but you my good man, gave hope! quality vid and one for the british guys too ;D
I have an issue where certain high octave notes are completely unaffected by the compression effect. As you can imagine this is extremely noticeable and doesn't sound very good. Does anybody know how to avoid this?
I can't really see but I think you mix up the output channels, you send the left channel output into the right channel input and vice versa. Actually I believe if you connect only the right channel output into the mixer right channel input Reason connect the left channel automatically.
thanx man idk y thou wen i plug in the ryt input on the splitter @ :37 the kick bleeds threw and the chords i have on it dnt come threw but it if i disconnect it u can hear it fine but of course u can only hear the kick on the left side!!! =/ help???
@DA2EONE It would be quite a lot easier to help you if you wrote in proper English or at least as close as you can get. "Thanx" = Thanks "idk" = I don't know "y" = why "ryt" = right
I'm not being a douche, it will help you a lot to use proper grammar when trying to get help or seem serious on the net, not knowing English is another matter and I fully understand that.
Good luck with fixing your problem mate :) I cannot help you myself, sorry!
@hlsghost haha i can see what you mean im just used 2 text talk, as for my problem =/ idk i guess i will just have to deal with it since no one has given me any suggestion on how to stop the bass from over powering my chords
@DA2EONE the trick is to use an equalizer for each instrument, and "notch out" certain frequencies that your kick is playing from your basses and strings. this will make it sound like your bass is separate from everything instead of being all mixed together and unclean sounding. this is how they do it, and its easier said than done.
instead of using the audio splitter i went directly from the output of the redrum to the compressor sidechain and compressor audio inputt to the instrument that we want to gate and then from the compressor output to the mixer..
with that i got the efx just by itself but idont get any drum sound at all but you do get the efx without the drum sound to it...
so..how do you make it so that if you mute the instrument that is sidechained into it..you can still get the efx??
for example if the kick drum is in there and you wanna mute the kick drum and still have that gated feel to it how would you pull that off??
i know in other program there are "pre and post" mixer options where the efx would still be there even if you mute the sidechained instrument...help me out..
more videos should be like this short and quick. and to all the people who are complaining that he doesn't explain a lot well, learn how to use this fucking software before you say anything and all you have to do to keep up is pause the video.
Dont know if you found the answer yet but all you have to do is go to the main mixer and cut the volume for the redrum (the 1 that controls the effect) to 0. hope this makes sense. Good luck!
Great video mate, very easy, simple and well explained tutorial. Have been looking for how to do this on YouTube for the last 24 hours and the amount of video’s that are on here that are pants at showing it is amazing.
hi, it would really help me if domeone could tell me how to make the sound more pronounced, or the bass 'pulse' more, i have the ratios on the compression unit maxed, thanks
Thanks sooooo much, I've been super pissed with Reason because I couldnt figure out how to sidechain in it, you showed me its super easy and now the song Im working on knocks!!!!
How can i do this? my Redrum is combined with Mixer 14.0 sending all drums Samples 2 .. So how can i comprees my kick drum & the Subtractor Bass which is sending to the FINAL-MIXER Not the Redrum Mixer--- it might sound funny but the cables r-giving me a hell of a time..New to Reason-used to FL.
amazing how benny bennassi and other electro artist use the side chaining im not a fan of that kind of procedure but it really usefull for voice over in overdub situation and it put a lot of agressive kick pressence.
YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!!

@JAKEIZBAWM The same way. Just run the output on the Thor to where you would with the NNXT. Same works with combinator and anything else :)
