well its a good thing nobody in america cares what italians think. AND i think we will have an awsome view of your Basillica from our new base. I cant think of a better location. thank you for picking germany as your ally in WWII...if you had not done this, none of this would be possible!!! thank u so much again!
NO DAL MOLIN! Americans are friends, but their presence in Italy in 2009 it' s no more required from the majority of italians, who are hit by police because of this idea. Vicenza will be no more the beautiful city that now is, with this base. If Americans are really democratics as they say they will agree with me (us): people doesn' t want more americans/ugly/polluting military bases, ok? So the government can' t do that.
If you don't want bases then elect politicians at home that won't sign treaties and agreements to allow bases. Its not America's fault your Prime Minister is an idiot. That's your own fault for electing him.
So I had to suppose that all americans are idiots because they voted for bush two times (maybe you too, but I don' t think so). Anyways: I won' t do so, it' s too easy to judge an entire Nation because of the President, and Mr. Obama agrees with me, I think. Do you want more details? I' m one of the "idiots" who DIDN' T VOTE FOR BERLUSCONI.
One more thing: if you are informated enough you know that this base, in Vicenza, has been allowed by Prodi three years ago, not by Berlusconi, and in general, the politic of american bases in Italy (and all Europe) begone during the cold war, and went on with all the governments, with or without the agree of people. I ave one in my region too, with nuclear missles underground, and a big centre for studies on cancer near there (just a coincidence, maybe).
@gvndud Nukes, dude? LOL. Why the hell would the United States even THINK of putting nukes in ANOTHER nation?! Jesus Christ, not even Bush or the Republicunts would think of something that idiotic; here's an informative message, we are NOT nazis bent on World domination.
@Cwhitfield15 For the same reason that brings them to hold airbases in other nations. Some of those nations in particular were crucial during the cold war. Italy, for your army, it' s not more than an amercan aircraft carrier. Having guns and aircrafts near the ex sovietic block' s limit it' s a certainty of easy and rapid intervention in countries like ex jugoslavia, iran, afghanistan, iraq, etc. etc.
@Cwhitfield15 In a word: it' s a strategic choice of your and our government. The presence of nukes it' s not official naturally, but it' s logic: the minimum of risk for usa and the maximum of fire power for nato countries.
@gvndud So why do you blame my country, when it's your own government that accepta this position as a "Strategic Area". Second, if there was nukes, why in the name of science would they keep them near civilian areas? What if some other nation was to attack those bases and everything would blow up? That's "Strategically STUPID". Same goes for the supposed "Nuclear warheads" stashed under the Monte Berico. Seriously, it's as plausible as me locking up a Unicorn in my basement.
@Cwhitfield15 Oh don' t worry about what I blame: I can confidently blame both, I' ve no problems to disagree with my government and others at the same time. Second: look, you think exactly what I think about the danger of nuclear bombs in civil areas: it' s a risk (oh, really?). Maybe for mine and your gov. this risk it' s acceptable they don't care about a small city far far away from Washington.
@Cwhitfield15 Obviously you are convinced that your gov. it' a bunch of good guys, I have fresh news: it' s not true. USA it' s military stronger than all the others countries, and until the situation will be this one they' ll do all that they want to do, like shift all the risks and uglyness on the other countries. At least leave people express their anger, it' s a democratic right.
@gvndud Oh, of course. You play the "American is a big bad government bent on the global monopoly" Obviously, you act like you know what's going on, and that's fine and dandy actually. But there's a problem. You are WAY off from what's going on in the States as of right now. Right now, my government (Which I find is a handled better than the previous one we've had for the last decade) is finding a way to get their nation out of a economic crisis, which is fucking us up quite badly.
@Cwhitfield15 I don' t play nothing, your country is the richest and most powerfull in this era, and not because of a decision of mine. I like Obama, and I know he has a lot of work to do to repair the mistakes of Mr Bush. For your information: the crisis hit all around the world, not only usa (the place from where it started, as in the '29). So I think also that building a new military base near Vicenza is not a priority. I' m not a finance expert but I' m well informed.
@gvndud Sure, you do have the right to protest. BUT, the democratic government is busy dealing with the shit the BUSH administration left behind. Sorry to point this out to you, but your fight is over. It's been decided that the Dal Molin air strip will be built. Honestly I'm sure my big bad government doesn't care by now cause the "Problem" is pretty much solved. Now they're dealing with bigger and more serious problems which is the fucking banks in the U.S. destroying our rights. Get over it.
@Cwhitfield15 I erroneously voted your comment...Ok the arrogance comes out another time, see? I mean: you would not have the courage to stand in front of the people that' s protesting and say to them that the base is a secondary problem. Maybe in a geopolitical contest it is so, but not for them.
@Cwhitfield15 They will bear your roaring/fucking/obsolete/useless/shitty f16 and trucks for a long long time again, and they knew that from the beginning of the protest. No more park, no more landscape and pure air in that place. When our country will not respond anymore to the american bucolic ignorant stereotipe of Italy, and we are going in that direction everyday, finally you will go away forever
@gvndud You really think all of the Americans are war mongering hillbilly yokels don't you? That's a bit of an ignorant though. I bet you haven't been to my country...at all.
@Cwhitfield15 I really would like to see the states personally, maybe working there for a period, I'm sure I can find a very big variety of people and a lot of ways of thinking. And big and beautiful places too. I repeat: the fact that your people choose obama prooves the will of changing. But believe me: from here, as european and italian, expecially during the last years, usa' s foreign policy look tremendously egoistic and umiliating.
@Cwhitfield15 Read about cia' s ingerences in italian policy during the seventies, read about the Cermis accident, read about Calipari's death, I think you' ll understand our point of view. Your pop culture could be appreciated or not, this is not the point. The point is: a country that uses the rest of the world as a risiko game, right now, in 2010, and if something goes wrong in one of this country, usa never pays. After a while u can' t stand this disparity, it' s offensive and painful.
@gvndud@gvndud Wrong. It's true that the World's economy is indeed dependent on The States' economy but the fact that America is The World leader at everything is bullshit. Military? Ok, but if the Chinese where to cease their product manufacturing because of some economical disaster, we'd ALL be in deep shit because deep down we know most of the stuff we keep in our house is in fact, made in Asia or mostly China. If they stop making products and labour, than the World is in a mess. A huge one.
@Cwhitfield15 We are going out from the target, with China and global economy. It' s not so complicate. People is slowly discovering that usa is "gay with someone else' s ass" (literal translation from italian), all the uglyest and inconvenient part of your economy is planned for other countries. And when these countries try to say "hey, wait a moment: I think this is not so necessary" they answer: "protest with your government and shut up, we saved your ass in ww2"
@gvndud I don't recall any cases where my CURRENT government pretty much told the rest of Europe to fuck off because "We saved you in World War 2". If you're talking about US Citizens telling you this bullshit, then they are people who cannot make a decent argument. I am NOT one of those douchebags, so don't try to generalize the U.S.
@Cwhitfield15 Obviously I' m talking about the govs policys not about the citizens. You' re right about generalization. So I presume you agree with me about the problem of the base. Unfortunately your gov doesn' t think like you. I only would like the things will change soon or late, not too late. Ciao e buone cose
you use words like majority...what was the percentage of the last referendum against da molin? ridicolo.... se voi parlare di maggioranza sicuramente non era in vostro favore. You preach peace, but take a look at your protest. don't be a hypocrite
Wich referendum? Do you know that now in Italy people cannot vote for this kind of things, and if they want to build a base they don' t ask to the population (and so Vicenza' s people can only protest in this way, and being heat by the police)? Look also at the TAV problem: the same situation. Another example: for nuclear implants we had a referendum in the '80s, and we voted "no". Now the government wants to build "new" nuclear implants, without a referendum,
because they know the italians don' t want it. Would you like to have nuclear implants and italians-military bases just next your house?I don' t think so. Do you really think that the majority of italians want americans bases and nukes in the place of green-parks (Vicenza) just because they voted for Berlusconi? :) That' s Italy: the government goes on thanks to special decrets and police, specially where there are little communities, like Vicenza, Campania, Piemonte
If its a just war then we must. If we can prevent genocide and the oppression of women why would we stop? If we didn't go to war Mussolini would still be using chemical weapons on Ethiopia and Hitler would have wiped the Jews off the face of the earth. War is simply the policy when someone or something is so destructive it can't be reasoned with.
@PS2djX The lack of sense in your sentence makes it clear that you are not just an obvious troll but also an Italian who cannot type in proper English.
@PS2djXI said you are a douche; a word to describe an individual who has shown themself to be very brainless in one way or another, thus comparing them to the cleansing product for vaginas. You are an excellent example of a douche.
@PS2djX I don't like Obama...as a matter of fact I think he's a pussy towards enforcing his politics against the Republicans. But I suppose you are too much of a douche to understand what I'm talking about. By the way, you're a bigot and people like you have no place in this World. But don't worry...your mentality is dying a painful death.
@PS2djX I am against the war, but given the fact that I reside in Vicenza and my job is IN the base, I'd say yes, I am pro. Now, the Ederle base will close if that little strip of land is not built so I honestly have no choice but to subside, but I am ideologically against the war.
