  • My left ear enjoyed this.....

  • Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to explain this. my friend is going through her 3rd aortic valve replacement and hopefully her last.

  • Very informative video, fantastic

  • i don't understand what makes the valve close, is it connected to nerve endings?

  • @jennystgirls The pressure in the chambers makes valves open and close. When the the atrium contracts, the pressure rise and it makes the atrioventrucular ( mitral and tricuspid ) valves open. When the atrium relaxes and the ventricle contracts the pressure rise in the ventricle, and the pressure in the atrium drops, thus causes to close the atrioventrical valves. Same goes to the aortic and pulmonary valves. All 4 valves in the heart are passive, as are other valves in human body.

  • i will be a cardiac surgeon...

  • @gioojj me too :)

  • @gioojj have a look at my videos to get even more of a feel of what cardiac surgeons do, Im hoping to get some valve videos up shortly as well

  • Gaudiani did my surgery to replace my defective aorta valve in March, and he did a wonderful job. Just saw him four days ago for a follow-up visit. He's a really cool doc! :-)

  • If you have a mechanical heart valve and have trouble sleeping, but you don't want to use drugs to sleep - you can purchase the psychoacoustic audio recording "Heartbeat River" at cdbaby.com. It may help.

  • 1500 gal/day...that's 62.5 gal/hour = 1 gal/min.

to help visualize, this it can fill one milk container per minute

  • This video is great to understand everything. My mum is due to go in for a valve replacement in the next few days and I just watched it with her after seeing it myself a few days earlier. It gives you confidence in the machinery and practice involved and really makes you look at the heart as a mechanical device that can be repaired. It has boosted confidence and taken away some of the nerves so thank you for posting.

  • Do you guys know why a Valve replacement can be unsuccessful? apprently my heart is still weak after my heart valve was replaced when I was 12...I just did my check with my heart doctor..he said its still leaky....truthfully I'm actually scared to know what happening to my heart...and future....I haven't told anyone my feelings about my heart situation yet..even my parents...I just want to know how or why my valve replacement failed....x.x

  • @beat builder , you need to see both a cardiologist and an obstetrician , valve regurge is not all the same , the degree and course of which varies , and thus the necessary intervention or follow up , just dont ignore the case and everything is gonna be alright.

  • My wife has a leaky heart valve and she is pregnant at the moment shes due february 4th 2011, i was just wondering if there will be any complication giving birth with this heart problem can somone give me an answer this really scares me i dont wana loose my wife my child or both of them :( plz someone hlp me here

Any way i want to thank you for letting me know a little bit about whats going to happen to me.
