@XxXxFRENCHHORNXxXx in what world are violins cheap? Maybe if you buy a violin that sounds like shit itll be cheap but in order for good sound your going to havta put out atleast 5 grand and atleast 1k for a good bow, and thats like amateur. As for teaching yourself how to play.... Good luck. but dont plan on getting past grade 2 without a guide
@pmbazman15 That's ridiculous, I bought a very nice intermediate level violin made in Germany in the 60's on EBay for $136 and it sounds very nice and is a wonderful piece of very good craftsmanship that maybe would cost about $1500 today. If one is lucky enough to find one like this, it is a great way to get into playing the violin. It does not sound like s##t and I will put up a video to demonstrate when I get a little more practice.
@jmdewey60 ok but like you stated above it is worth 1500 retail, not 300 dollars retail. 1500 dollars is a good starting level violin but nothing really to perform with. So like I stated, If you buy a violin for 300 dollars retail then yes it will sound bad. Instead you bought a 1500 dollar violin for 136 dollars on ebay and twisted my words. So really how is what I said rediculous. Play a violin that costs 300 dollars and judge yourself if you dont believe me.
@pmbazman15 OK, you as a person are not ridiculous, but what you said earlier sounded like it. Right, I bought a modern Romanian-made with a SRP of $1200 and it did not sound as nice as that old German does, so I am selling it. So, to go into a store and pay full retail for a new one, best bring $2k. or more.
@jmdewey60 ? thats exactly what I stated before that you said was ridiculous. However for a good retail instrument id advice spending atleast 5k so you dont have to upgrade in another year or 2.
@jmdewey60 While I do not agree with such an abrasive approach to your comment. I completely agree you can get a great sounding violin for $200-$300. It works like PC parts, everything over a certain price point improves, but by only smaller amounts with each dollar amount.
@brittonseanweb After making my early comment about the violin, I bought a very nice 39 year old Spanish style classical guitar on Ebay for $130+shipping, in perfect condition. It was made in Japan when skilled craftsman were being payed basically slave wages, and when the preferred woods, that are practically extinct now, were readily available, where this was made with the best Honduran mahogany and Bavarian pine. A modern guitar to compare would be at least $5,000, and it sounds fantastic.
@stringsnbows43 i have been playing for 10 years and when i learned vibrato everyday i just started out by moving my hand back and forth slowly and soon day by day i made my motions shorter and faster. make sure you loosen up on your hand and pull your finger back. after about 3 weeks of doing those steps everyday for about 10 minutes each day you should have it! good luck!
In my studio, students learn the bow hold very quickly using the Bow Hold Buddies[tm] bow accessory. The accessory keeps the hand relaxed and fingers in place while we learn more music.
As a young violin player for five years *(have not managed vibrato yet) Learning to play the violin is not easy you cannot play immediately, so those who now want to buy violin's BEWARE! you have a lot of effort to go through. But if you really want to become a violinist, may i suggest Eden Vanning Rosen violin books?
as a violinist for 7 years and a fiddle player for all of 2 days :-P i can say that this is truly amazing. the one thing i have learned is without heart and emotion the music just isn't going to flow right. thank you for introducing me to this beautiful song!
I did, however notice you used a different bow hold, a little high up the stick. It is just for personal comfort i assume. Or, it could be easier to play this song with that bow hold.
Now, I will be the immature guy. "Londonderry Air" can be said as London derriere! I am *completely* kidding this is a beautiful song.
