@bunneh87 Really?! Someone told me it means 'late in the night'?! and that it is a bhojpuri word... ??? I don't think the English translation given is really what they are saying at that time, but rather a way to tell the story for English speakers. But nevertheless, what you said makes sense, as Krishna was dark. So I guess it is a word for both, and has double meaning....thank you very much!!! :)
@diannerin Yes you are probably right about that its Bhojpuri for ''late at nigth''. Krishna has many names, and shaam does mean evening or night, and Krishna means dark(skinned).
I found Chandramukhi's and Devdas' relationship deeper than I found his and Paro's, and it's not because I think Aiswarya's performance in this movie was inferior, but I think the dialogue wasn't as poetic and well thought out. their relationship seemed to follow the generic love formula, without really showing much personality. i think Aiswarya and Shahrukh Khan did very well, I just wish their scenes together were written in the same style as his and Chandramukhi's. they worked very well
@genericusername337 i agree. But i still think madhuri deserved more screen space than she actually got in the movie. According to novel all three characters are equally important. But anyways mind blowing performance by madhuri and shahrukh as well.
Madhuri and SRK have far better chemistry with their costars, so their scenes--while also being the best in the movie and written poetically--have Madhuri and SRk sharing great chemistry. Aish seems to only respond deeply with Hrithik Roshan.
You have good point. Tend to be harder on her because I think she is should push herself more--she could really be great if she did. She's very good, but I'm talking like legendary greatness if she challenges herself more with acting--with dancing she is the best after Madhuri, lol.
@genericusername337 yes and that is b/c that is the way its depicted by the novel. The reason why Chadramukhi is the main female protagonist is b/c both devdas and chandra are going through the same pain - hopeless love. None of them can get what they want and that agony of not being able to get their perspective beloved (Paro for Devdaa and Devdad for Chandramukhi) is where this amazing chemistry is woven into perfection by sarat chandra chatterjee. SLB has failed to bring that out.
mesmerising....!!...she brought d lost prestige f classical dances in bollywood...!!..amazing...i hv olwyz preferred classical ovr westrn...one cn easily copy westrn dances in months tym bt sumtymz evn 8 yrs aint enuff 2 b perfect in classical..!....
@az5075 yes, I quite liked that! paying heed to both. you can find that in Indian movies because they're all-embracing. in Islam, there is one true God, so you can't expect to find that in Pakistani films. in Hinduism, you can see God in whoever and whatever you wish, and it was a very nice integration in these two songs.
I heard it was 45 kg her outfit. I watched the making and she had 2 stop at times cause the outfit was too heavy and she was Preganant and in Dola Re Dola she was aswel. The guy who taught her to dance is India's best classical indian dance teacher. This women is the BEST Bollywood has ever had. Ive never seen a movie of her's tht i didnt like. Why didnt Hollywood pick her for any movie. Madhuri is the Queen of Bollywood!!!
According to IMDB: In the song "Kahe Ched Mohe," the outfit worn by Madhuri Dixit weighed 30 kilograms. She had lots of problems with the dance choreography, but she eventually completed it."
@leonsjoy You need to watch the movie to fully understand, but the dance she does is reminiscent of a night he spent with his lover, who he left behind because his family would not accept their love.
Sensual freakin song; Madhuri certainly knows how to move. Btw, dost mine ears deceive me or is that the tune to "London Bridge Is Falling Down" at 1:29 & 3:06?
@elmersglue16 devdas (srk) is having regrets for dumping his childhood sweetheart. (aish) his college buddy (jackie shroff) takes him to a brothel to forget his troubles in revelry. chandramunkhi (madhuri) finds his misery irresistible. i believe she later calls him her "messiah of misery." the film, "devdas" is first rate tragic poetry on film. things end badly for all involved.
I love the complex of ironies: the song complains of Krishna teasing Radha, but witht he performance Chandrdmukhi is the one teasing Dev! Yet, she's already drawn to him and can't resist! Gorgeous! Only Madhuri has the beauty, skill, and grace to pull this off. The most beautiful woman of our times--she is to us what Madhubala was to classic Bollywood!
you're absolutely right! Also, in the song Morey Piya, you see that Paro is also not just a willess victim of Devdas' charms - and this song depicts that event, as well.
I've just seen Dev. D. and I must say, together with the 1953, the cross-references the movies make make all three of them all the better!
