  • Somptueux!

  • so sweet :)

  • une version siblime

  • love this song so much!

  • Great!

  • So poignant a song....heartbreaking. I thought of my old love and how much I lost when it ended. so many of us do not end up with our true love or we end up alone. Somehow we messed up. Somehow...we were too young, or too busy, or just not paying attention to what was in front of us. It takes tow to make love work and tow to have it disappear.

I'd have been the shadow of your dog if I thought it might have kept me by your side, woman..." And my heart is broken....but I soldier on. ..alone.

  • Masterpiece

  • i did not like this version like i did ray live i think on his album till there was you. I don't think ... shadow of your dog... is as deep as barbra and shirley ...shadow of your shadow!! wow. in response to megafaceboy. But the song and the lyrics are............

  • best version of the english lyrics version of this is by shirley bassey.

  • the french lyrics are so much better

  • @gscooley Only if you understand French.

  • Awesome, absolutely AWESOME !!!

  • I can't stop listening to this song (my favorites are Rod McKuen's, which I recall from when it was originally released, and Cyndi Lauper's - both of which are gut-wrenchingly emotional). This one could be right up there for me with a few more listens though.

@MrJomo - The song's origins are pretty well known. Do you know where a literal translation of the French lyrics can be found? I listened to Brel's original last night but was left cold since I can't understand French.

  • the best one =)

  • 5:10 - "I'd have been the shadow of your dog if I thought it might have kept me here by your side woman." Deep. The Genius does it again. Thanks for a lifetime of great music Ray. Today's musician's and artists need to study you. If so, today's music can be great again. Rest in Peace my friend.

  • @MegaFaceboy

I agree with what you are saying, nevertheless I would kile to clarify the fact that this song was originally wtitten by Jacques Brel, a Belgian artist, and that the original song is ''ne me quitte pas''. The text is even better in the french version
