  • Your German had a lot of mistakes in it, but really it didn't "suck" as others said. The grammar and articles were a bit wonky but your impressive none the less. Pronunciation was great though. :)

  • his deutsch sucks as well..

  • his russian sucks really

  • Korean part you spoke - Understood everything. Granted, it was two senetences, but oh man, made me feel smarter. On another note im using Korean on lingq and i really like it. Im going through the beginners course just because i want to relearn everything i already know, and im starting to notice things. I thank you so much for making a free, and easy way to learn. Keep up the awesome work!

  • Steve, how old were you when you began speaking learning language?

  • 1. Chinese 2. Japanese 3. French 4. Russian 5. Spanish 6. Deutsch german 7. Italian 8. Korean 9. English I missed something, i guess portugese, i don't know ^^ The only languages i uderstood was english and korean >< Maybe some german since i learn it at school.
  • Hahaha, impressive.

  • What's the order ?

I never get tired of watching this kind of videos of all you polyglots. I truly admire you.

  • I have so much respect for people who speak multiple languages!

  • and this video was a while back but I'm sure this Mr. Sanchez guy is still eating his words. XD

  • @Imyirtseshem Well. Looks like I am just using one of these materials)))

  • @Imyirtseshem In fact it is different in Western and Eastern Yiddish. In Western Yiddish Hebrew words are written like they are in Hebrew and in Eastern they follow the rules of Yiddish itself and contain vowels.

  • Btw. You've mentioned complexity of the German grammar. I am curious to know if you find it more difficult than Russian.

What particular parts did you find complex in the grammars of these two? Declension was mentioned for German and I believe that it is also the main problem in learning Russian... or isn't it?

  • @eugrus Russian is more complex. The cases, the verb aspects, verbs of motion and much more. But it is best to ignore the complexity. In time it all settles in.

  • @lingosteve hey there im watching your videos. japnese vs chinese impressivness?

  • What would you say about the difficulty of learning to read fluently with a new alphabet? I currently try to deal with reading in Yiddish. It took just about four hours to learn the Hebrew alphabet and get enough skills to read Yiddish texts syllable by syllable, but two weeks after that I feel no progress in rapidity of reading. (I understand the language itself while it's not that far from German that I've learned for about a year)

How long did it take you to become fluent in reading Cyrillic?

  • @eugrus A new alphabet is not a big deal. You just have to learn it and get used to it.

  • Hola Steve!

So... did Mr. Sanchez actually signed up his students at LingQ? xD

  • @lingosteve How can you write in Russian ? Do you have a russian keyboard ?

  • @Neuroneos I use the phonetic keyboard that come with my Macbook.

  • Can you "only" speak these languages or also write them as well? In any case AMAZING!!

  • @knuddel123 I read them and write mostly using computers.

  • omg this video is so depressing^^

  • @henrix1989 Why?

  • This is great, but what does one do as a career with these multi-lingual abilities?

  • @924142707 whatever you freakin want to!

    respect!

  • Your Cantonese is so impressive especially since you didn't learn the tones! You almost sound like a native speaker except for some of the words sounded off almost like mandarin like the first few words you said, were difficult to recognize. and what made you sound fluent was that you captured the Cantonese attitude when you said it, it was so funny!! haahha

  • My son (2,5ys) just tried to mimick your Chinese - really funny ;-) I never tried to learn an East Asian languages, but I have Chinese colleagues and I'm starting to get curious.

  • you deserve respect; i am also a language lover

    5stars

  • Impressive! I want to be able to speak lots of language too. I've learned lots of different languages, but just for a short time, so it doesn't stay long...

You should try learning Indonesian. Not a very important language, though :P

  • @veintiuno91

Who says it is not important? Indonesian and Malay are similar. I would say it is the same language with variation. They are about more than 200 million speakers of this language.

  • @veintiuno91 The CIA actually wants people who can speak Indonesian (no I'm not just making that up). There's millions of speakers of that language too. Don't worry about what language other people say is "important" anyway. Learn whatever language you want to learn. Peace :)

  • Chort snim!!! AHAHA you did a great job on the Russian!!! 10/10!!!!

  • Can you deal with real life situation by using all those languages?

  • Of course. My goal in any language is to be able to discuss things on a wide variety of subjects. Only Korean is not up to snuff and I do not claim to speak it (yet).

  • How do you become fluent, and get a good accent, without immersing yourself or traveling to the country?

  • LingQ and a lot of reading and listening.

  • OMG your Swedish was f**** great seriously, 10/10 for effort.

    Y coreano tambien? Amazing.

  • you are my hero ^.^

Intermediario significa 'intermediary'. La palabra que significa 'intermediate' es 'intermedio'.

  • giỏi quá!

  • lol that hater got owned

  • Looks like Mr. Sanchez just got PWND and Steve got new Lingq students.

  • i think u must learn portuguese from brazil

  • Chinese and Japanese is fantastic, along with your French..

    German was good also

You could practise your Spanish a touch more...:)

  • Svenska! Vilken trevlig överraskning!

    ;)

  • I htought you would have morfe of a Quebec accent--your pausing is very Anglophone.

Spanish there are problems--you confuse with Italian in some parts.

    Japanese sounds good.

It is very hard to switch languages without someone speaking to you in the language. That is what makes this impressive.

  • Dude!! I could understand most of the spanish in this video. I'm so happy!!!

You should do more videos in other languages where you tell stories or something.

  • you are awsome... tu eres el mejor, tu est un bon homme, i am learning french, but I speak english and spanish, I am just 14 can you tell me how you learned all those languages???

  • ton francais est tres bon et tu parle comment un vraiment francais, tu espanol es muy bueno te falto conjugar unos verbos pero bueno!!!, your english I think is your first language, so is the best one!!!

  • hello!! my friend shared this video in facebook,

that's how I found out this.

    you are amazing!

    i love learning languages too.

  • keiko, I love people who love languages. We need more of them in this world. All languages and all cultures belong to all humans. We can share in all of them if we want.

  • you are great man!

  • You rock! I can say that your russian sounds really natural, especial some phrases like "Черт с ним" :)

Also, since I heard much of chinese and japanese - your speech is amazingly natural!

  • Your Spanish and Russian sound very NATURAL! :) I like the intonations. And it looks like you really enjoy it.

  • Its a great example of how your manner changes between one language or another. Its like the language triggers off certain emotions that make you cheery (на русскам, тебе очень весело), and some languages give you a deep brooding etc.

  • Why don't you pick up some Polish? I'd be really grateful then ;-) 10 languages and you've not even mentioned Polish :-( It's such a shame. But you can still learn some :) 10 sounds good but 11 would sound even better! Good luck :)

  • wow.. this almost 10-min video requires so many decades to accomplish.. You Are Awesome!!!

  • Impressive!

P.S. Your "черт с ним" was absolutely perfect!

  • Your accent speaking Portuguese is pretty good!

  • Also, "Много" denotes more than 4 things. So it would be: одна, две, три, четыре ошибКИ but пять, шесть, семь, восемь, девять, десять, etc.

  • You should join LingQ. I like the way you explain things. No lengthy theory. Just "this is how it is". You can help us with Russian and work on some other language.

  • Oh, thank you Steve, I've already there (since october), I like the project and I try to practice my French there, thogh I mostly read texts for pleasure, not for points. I'm now planning to learn Italian and I want to be more actively engaged in the whole thing, but I have my exams now, so who knows when I'll start, but I will definetely do that.

  • though not "thogh"

  • Wow, your French, Spanish are excellent. I've also saw your video when you speak Italian and it's impressive as well. I'm a Russian native speaker, so I want to point out something. It's not very important, but still... I've noticed that when you speak Russian in all videos, you say (hope you can view the Russian script)

Many mistakes; through mistakes. There is one tricky thing with our case system. "Много" doesn't mean "Many" literally, it means "A lot of" (like beacoup de). So the preposition "Of" says the next word must be in the genitive case (or English's possessive case). so it must be: "Много ОшибОК". "Через ошибОК" must be "Через ошибКИ" (English's subjective case).

  • Thanks CYBERianBoi , I will try to pay attention to that. I like your explanation. Now if I can remember the endings, remember the gender and remember what you said, I will improve over time. Especially if I get to visit Russia and spend some time there, eating borscht, drinking vodka and yukking it up with real Russkies.

  • You're welcome, you Russian is very good, I've never heard a native English speaker being that good, the Germans and the Italians somehow manage it and I'm not mentioning the Slavs, but English is just so different. BTW, your: Черт с ними was very cool:)

  • I love your russian. You've just got this free abandon with the language. Who needs grammar when you have such a carefree attitude to speaking.

Mr Kaufmann speaks an excellent free flowing French and is German is good too.

Could you explain how you learned to speak so many language so well?

  • Great vid Steve

  • Steve, 안녕하세요. I listen to your podcasts :)

  • Thanks for the kind words. We would love to have more members in Korea but so far we have not been successful there. Any suggestions on how to spread the word would be welcome.I will visit Korea once I have a better handle on the language. Looking forward, and I will let you know.

  • Thanks for the reply!! Looking forward to talking to you in person one day, eitherin Korea or in Canada (or maybe elsewhere) :)

  • ha, I've only had two years of german, and I can understand you. You're right.. grammar makes no sense.

  • Me encanta escuchar tantas idiomas, porfavor continua hacer videos en otras idimos!!

  • Also, I like how you say "nie" instead of nunca at first, I make the same error, because I learned German right before Spanisch!

It is so hilarious to just be zoning out watching the video and them BAM, comes a language I can understand, then NOT anymore, and then again.

  • Well, I did learn one new thing - it's pronounced Link, not Ling-cue!

  • Great! :) I understood your English, Swedish and German perfectly (the languages I know...). You speak both Swedish and German very clearly, so I can only imagine you speak just as well in the others! Impressive. Yes German grammar is awful! I have studied German in school and one semester at the university (all in all 6 years!) and still I can't really speak it. I understand it, but speaking is another matter. So I totally agree with every word you say in the languages I understand. :)

  • Excellent video Steve! I am a proud member of LingQ and cannot recommend it highly enough!! Steve is a true inspiration!

  • Well done Steve!. Mr Sanchez, please go to the lingq and you'll see!

  • very good video Steve :) muy bien hecho, vous me donnez l'inspiration pour apprendre plus langues :)

  • Let's see if I can get them?

English, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, Swedish?, German, ????, Japanese, Portuguese

    Is that right??

    I speak English

    Ich spreche Deutsch

    Hablo Espanol

    Parlo catala (m'agrada molt)

    Je parle francais

    :)

  • I think the order went English, Chinese, Japanese, French, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, German, Cantonese, Korean, Portuguese.

I forgot to use Italian, which I also speak, and speak better than Russian, Korean, Portuguese and Cantonese.
