  • In spite of a few mods that corvette goes especially a 91. Nice car man!!

  • The LT5 engine is still GMs best of all times!!

  • stock?

  • Yeah, it's too bad Lotus designed this engine. Kinda' pisses me off actually.

  • Almost 8 grand and pulling hard....Nice!

  • Dang!! Did I just see that Corvette's V8 tach over 8,000?!! Jeez!! Nice car man. And don't forget to change the oil!

  • i like the sound!!!!!!!!!

  • Change your oil, thumbs up?

  • I love how it revs 1k rpm more than todays Z06. Still waiting on a 7.0 DOHC from chevy to blow my mind.

  • my truck does a 10.8 0-60 lol bahaahaha

  • 0-60 in 4.6 seconds was a big deal 20 years ago! :)

  • @F0rM0th3rRussi4 0-60 in 4.6 is still a big deal. Last i checked, this will keep up with any GT or Charger or challenger. Now the new vettes... thats a different story.

  • @F0rM0th3rRussi4 anything under 5 seconds is at a least a car worth driving

  • Excellent Engine!

  • 8,000 RPM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????

  • That's a good video...You see the other video of the regular C-4 acceleration and it's like night and day...

  • Dude I have a z06. How are you going to tell me I'm wrong.

  • lol he was on his way to get his oil changed...LIKE A BOSS

  • Aren't short stroke motors nice? :) I'm building a high rev/road race L76 for my G8 right now :)

  • damn nice, and im a ford fan. what are the specs on these cars?

  • @ 8l it sounds like its just getting started

  • I dont see why they put radios in them, that engine sound is better the 99.9% of the songs out today.

  • screw the new zr1 i want an old one like this hehe

  • bad ass

  • Its got a pretty high redline. It does say Change Oil on the dash...I think you should listen to the dash lights! :P

The shifts are so hard, but so fast. Is this a manual or an auto?

  • @Josh1223334444 6-speed manual. That was the only option for the ZR1. Oh, and the oil light? I just ignored it. Oil was changed every 3000 miles, but I could never find the combination to reset the oil light (or be bothered...).

  • Do the following:

    1. Turn ignition "ON", but do not start engine

    2. Press the "ENG/MET" button and release, then, within 5 seconds, press it again.

    3. Within 5 seconds of Step 2, press and hold the "GAUGES" button. While the button is held, the "Change Oil" indicator will flash.

    4. Continue holding the "GAUGES" button until the "Change Oil" indicator stops flashing and goes out, indicating successful completion of the reset cycle. This should take about 10 seconds.

  • @sdba11

Try this to reset the oil light...

After an oil change, or when "CHANGE OIL" appears on the Trip Monitor, with the ignition on and engine off, press the "ENG MET" button (located on trip monitor) once. Press the "ENG MET" button again within 5 seconds. Within 5 seconds, press and hold the "RANGE" or "GAUGES" button (1990-1994). The light will flash. When it stops flashing and goes out, the system is reset.

  • @sdba11 Google how to do it . I dont know how but I know its not hard . I had to do that to find the cruise control on my 99 cougar .

  • @sdba11 here go nice vette

Turn the key to the Run position, but do not start the engine. Press and release the ENG MET on the trip monitor. Within five seconds, press and release it again. Within five seconds press and HOLD the GAUGES button on the trip monitor. The CHANGE OIL light will start to flash. Hold GAUGES botton until flashing stops. Light is now reset.

  • i love the c4"s not to flashy, but plenty of attitude

  • whoa, for the time these were made, I had no idea they'd tach 8 grand. That was so

    awesome! Fast too!

  • OIL!!!!

  • GOD that thing is great!!!! I have some radials from a ZR1 just like that behind my house. Bet the owner loves his car.

  • I thinks its the only OverHead Cam corvette GM produced. Can you imagine screaming that thing up to 10,000 RPM?? That's just cool.

  • that thing revs high, nicevette

  • isn't the ZR1 able to do a lot faster?

  • That is some fast stuff right there man...

  • oooooooh 1991, was ganna say.

  • To reset the change oil light do the following;

Turn key to ON but don't crank.

Press ENG MET button then press it again within 5 seconds.

Press and hold Gauges button until change oil light blinks out. Takes about 10 seconds. If it doesn't blink start back at square 1.

  • I really believe though that if Chevrolet would have continued to develop this engine with new technology, they could have achieved 600 H.P. out of a naturally aspirated 7.0 engine by now and get the same gas mileage or better as an LS7, maybe even as much as the mighty Zr1 WITHOUT the blower! What do you guys think?

  • @james6speed probably but then you have smog to deal with...

  • @gdcod3player even with the smog man!!! There dealing with it now, and remember the LT5 did get the same or better gas mileage as the LT1

  • nice video man. The fastest car I ever drove was a '95 ZR-1 back in the late 90's when I sold cars for Classic Chevrolet in Mentor Oh (sorry Jim Brown). It was so exciting to open this car up on the freeway. I felt like nothing could touch me on the freeway when I downshifted and took off. I love the sound of that dual-overhead cam motor revving. I only wish Chevrolet-Mercury Marine would have continued development on this fine engine. Nothing against the LS series because they are great.

  • I have a 2006 Corvette Z06, I want to get a 2010 ZR1, god I love Corvettes.

  • @rapinNtapin That's pretty sweet, the ZR1 is definitely a car to be extremely proud of. Hope you can get one

  • wow you shift gears quite late for such an old lady ;)

  • my pinto would keep up with this 1............ just kidding lol badass car dude!

  • Nice car dude, VERY FAST

  • 8000 rpm, Thats what I want to hear out of a v8!

  • Dang these things are still way fast. 19 years old and still faster than so many cars now a days. Have fun with her man.

  • I love that engine!!!

  • Could you please let me know the brand of the chip that you used to get the revs that high?

  • awesome

  • dont you love how this 350 is pullin nearly 8,000 on the tach. fuckin music to my ears!

  • 91... so this is the 5.7L DOHC V8, isn't it? BEASTLY! I love raw N/A power! and the sound.... ohhhh excuse me, was I drooling? LOL

  • Comment removed

  • @dryphtyr oh yes, my friend I love the LS series, but the LT5 is a beast! and a pushrod engine wouldn't like revving to 8k very much, either ^_^

  • @dryphtyr the LT5 has dohc heads...

  • imagine if the new zr1 could pull 8-9k rpms lol.....can anyone say 80 in 1st lol

  • lol i like how you say stock, but headers and a chip lol then its not stock :-) nice ZR-1 by the way!

  • Ah the C4 ZR1 is probably my favorite vette, nice video!

  • Now this is HARD acceleration, AMAZING sound!

  • DOHC isn't what corvette fans want. Adding 3 camshafts loads the engine. Sure it helps it breathe better but it only needs the extra air at high rpms hence no low end gain. The only way i could see DOHC is if they go turbo direct injection as well.

  • @ronmann606 just put bigger valves and dfi on a small block LS series v8 and you got a deadly monster, well with the supercharger!

  • The valves couldn't get much bigger on the LS3/L92. It would cause shrouding around them, limiting any gains caused by increasing valve area. The big valves is one reason the bore was increased to 4.060" from 4" Those heads can fit an engine with as small a bore as 4", but breathing is compromised. With an intake as big as 2.16", theres much room for power gains due to porting, and the biggest gains will come from such mods. Frankly, LS3's,7's, and '9s dont need bigger valves.

  • now i see what kills the 0-60... the 1-2 shift before you get there :/ Great sounding car, nice run, beautiful exercise in proof of concept by GM

  • @tcclaviger Yes, unfortunately it's geared to run out at 56mph. Later Z06s, and I think the *new* ZR1, get 60 out of first. If it'd spin just that bit more, 0-60 would be quite a bit better. But hey, 56 in 1st, over 80 in 2nd is pretty good. :-)

  • @sdba11... Is this your car?... if so is your your change oil light on because it just needs an oil change or because of an unknown factor... other C4's on youtube have theres on but the owners cant figure out why... I am also an owner of a 94 vette and my change oil light will stay off for 2 weeks after an oil change then sneek back on again no matter what I do... Im just wondering if your suffering from a similar problem as me and others on youtube..

  • @bighunt08 The oil change light is on because I never switched it off. I don't need a light to tell me when to change my oil! I changed the oil every 6000 miles with Mobile 1 fully synthetic oil, and since I could never remember the 'combination' to switch the change oil light off, I just gave up :-)

  • @bighunt08 I may know how to fix your problem. Turn your key on, but DON'T start the car, just have it where the power comes on. Now, press your gas pedal in THREE times SLOWLY in under 10 seconds. You don't have to do it REAL slow, but just don't punch it up and down really fast. Nice, smooth motion up and down 3 times. Tell me if this works, I'm curious (it works on my Trans Am)

  • @bighunt08 just as a heads up.....after working in a garage any gm has a diff "CODE" u have to follow to reset a oil light almost ALL of them are different even between the same models just diff years... tryin to figure out which one u got good luck to u ........if u figure out what one resets a 99 pontiac van let me know i been tryin to figure it for 3 years....if not fuck it do it like old days track ur 3 thou

  • @bighunt08

lol they need to manually reset it after oil change (like the c5 corvette as well) i forget how i use to have a c4.

  • @ghettopettingzoo... Oh theyed reset it but it would still come back on for after a month for no reason... By now I've said fuck it and found out how to shut it off myself... Most likely just a retarded and old sensor I guess..

  • @sdba11

I actually think that the new one's get 70MPH out of first gear... Thats what makes them so good from a dig for a RWD car.

  • @sdba11 the 09' ZR1 does 60 in 1st, 120 in 2nd and so on. or some where in that area. idk bout the newer Z06s but the 03 and up cant do that.

  • @sdba11 You do realize that shorter gearing is much better for acceleration, right? I have a C5 Z06 and it does maybe 35 in first and 70 in second. That's why the C5 Z06's are a lot faster than a base C5, LS1 Trans-am, or Camaro. If the C6 Z06 had the same gearing as the C5 Z06 it too would be substantially faster than it already is. Installing gear's that long in the new Z06 was to increase the gas mileage, if you like you can watch my bone stock 405 hp C5 Z06's acceleration compared to a C6Z.

  • @Jutzujin if you have enough power, you dont need the short gears. a c6 z06, even with its logn gears, will still barely control tire spin. if it had low gears, it would just require less throttle to spin, and it would add that shift

  • @pepene93 Uhh, no man, shorter gears mean you will put down more power always. Unless you have 8000hp, gears matter.

  • Plus there is no reason to have a car geared to go 250+mph when it simply can't do it, C6Z06 would probably do 210-215 if it had shorter gearing.

  • @Jutzujin sorry for those insults, thought you were some kid talking shit. my point still stands however.

  • @Jutzujin really? go take high school physics, then come back. hell, even elementary school physics would be enough. at any given speed, youll ideally be at peak rpm. if you have long gears, that may be say 5th gear. for a higher ratio rear end, it may be 4th, but the combination of trans and rear end gearing will be the same for a given speed and rpm.

  • I love the vette, hate the dash! damn digital

  • Is that thing really shifting at 8000? Whats done to it, they wouldnt do that stock would they?

  • My friends 91 Zr1 shifts at 8 grand!

  • Yep sure was, and theyd do it bone stock all day long.

  • @GMdrivingMOPARguy corsa + chip

people pay attention its usually in the video or in the info

    fuck

  • GM stated a possible DOHC V8 for the C7 Corvette that promises 600+hp naturally aspirated lets cross our fingers.

  • @Greendude33 no shit whats it called i havent heard of this yet its goin 2 murder all fords (no fanboy)

  • Supossedly it's the next addition to the LS series engines.

You mate that 600HP lightweight V8 with GM's promised sub 3000lb C7 and we have a very fast car.

  • If GM goes DOHC you have my word that ill kill myself

  • That's the only way for them to keep weight down they could squeeze 600hp out of a 6 liter engine without forced induction so why not? Not to mention the C7 is guaranteed by GM to be below 3000lbs

  • I just dont see where adding 3 cams is losing you any weight. So your saying they couldnt build a 600hp pushrod motor and keep it under 3000lb's? Im confused, the LT5 was badass but I would never wanna work on one. Nor would I wanna work on any of the new Fords theyre all shit and Ford has had nothing but problems with most of them. I love GM for many reasons, one being that theyve continued to make power with OHV motors. If they start heading the DOHC route with their cars I might lose all hope

  • check out my vids...........it a camaro but with an lt1 with almost 200k miles

  • That may be the best sounding vette ever.

  • I'd like to see what a production run of the mill DOHC v8 at, say a 7.0 liter displacement would dish out compared to the OHV LS7. Of course it prolly cant go in a small sports car because of such a big size and weight foot print it would impose. That LT5 was a beast for its day! But like someone mentioned, the LS3 Vettes will stomp on the C4 ZR1's lol! Starting to wonder when we'll see base 500+hp Corvettes...

  • @joshnc101 actually itd prob b bout the same if not the ls3 barely winning and its a 15-20 yr old car lol

  • Fuck this thing is niccceeee

  • sounds great

  • I love this engine

  • sweet engine and nice gear ratios

  • how many miles does this have?

  • I love old c4 ZR1s,but its sad that a new base model will rape one.

  • 8K!!!!!!!!!Not bad for V8!

  • @emendy336 it was able to rev this high because it was actually a DOHC designed by lotus

  • damn, where is the rev limiter on that thing.

i know a guy who shifts his ZR1 at like 7500. that dude took it all the way to 8K

  • The lt5 was able to rev to 10000 safely, but gm limited at 8 for longevity of serpentine components.

  • @chickensedan Hahahaha. 10,000? Not a chance. 8500 max. Nice try.

  • @chickensedan like the tensioner? i know on the ls1, the tensioner pulley reaches its maximum rated speed at 4800. and thats where it started to get fun, lol

  • @chickensedan the rev limiter in the stock PROM is 7020 rpm. If it revs higher, it has an aftermarket PROM installed. Mine is set to 7200rpm - on stock internals I wouldn't run it any higher. The LT5 is a stout engine, but if I recall correctly it does have a cast crankshaft.

  • @chickensedan 8k limiter stock? Doubt it. More likely it has something to do with the aftermarket chip. Great sounding car and very impressive performance!

  • Is this a stock c4 Corvette? What year is it?

  • its a c4 zr1 vette with an lt5 5.7 32 valve dohc motor designed by lotus n made by mercury marine it has headers, corsa and a chip but other then that its stock the motor is good for 385-405 crank frm 90-95

  • lol hey everybody...go to 0to60in16seconds page and look at his favorites...what a fucking pedo...lol...fucking fat ass ugly old fart whacking off to little girls...should be shot for that...fucking old pervert

  • Awesome car.

Though, on a side note, why would you say "stock except for headers, corsa + chip"? Thats NOT stock.

That would be like saying your meal is fully cooked, except the steak is raw.

  • theyre all bolt ons... not a big deal.

  • no thats like saying its all stock engine except for these mods...why correct him..you just get corrected.

  • Stock means stock. As in not modified. This is modified.

  • This is incredible, it revs all the way to 8000 like it is nothing, what an engine.. I'd be hard pressed to choose between a ZR1 from the 1990's and a recent model ZO6 (since i cant afford a new ZR-1... lol) A common criticism of the newer vettes here (in western europe) is that they are more 'european' than the older models... to me they are all american muscle though.. and long may they last!

  • Holy shit that was fast! Yeah, redline at 8000 rpm. I think it's due to the headers. I had an '88 GTA trans am with the corvette L98 back in the day. I put headers on it and it screamed up to 7000 on the rpm guage where as before it was at 5500. GM power at it's best!

  • the engine in the old ZR-1's was a 32 valve V8 with a short stroke just so you know. They didn't use the push rod L98's in the older ZR-1's.

  • are you really that stupid?

the reason it revs to 8000rpm is because it is not a pushrod engine (which is what the l98 and every v8 engine ever made by gm, the 1991 zr-1 engine is a chevy small block made by mercury marine)

if you rev a stock l98 to 7000rpm (which it couldn't the heads just flow enough air and the cam is far to mild) it would literally explode

and if for some reason it didn't you would still have a trashed engine

  • Wow...we got another know it all talking out his ass...here's a little advice...SHUT THE FUCK UP ASSHOLE!!!

  • are you by any chance refering to me?

  • Yes...shut the fuck up asshole, you talk way too much for a douche bag!

  • i feel u on that the only thing he made sense w was the z28 thing but other then that think bout his name 0 to 60 n 16 secs lmfao

  • lol

  • @brettvett1

    i should fuck your mother

fucking neuronic asshole your the only one one here who gives a flying fuck what im saying

    i wasnt talking to you

  • shut the fuck up psycho or I'm gonna kill you

  • I like how this engine can rev a lot more than any current corvette engine, this lotus engine was great and DOHC maybe that's why this engine sounds different

  • Strange, the LT5's redline is the exact same as the LS7...7000 RPM.

  • lol yea

  • the last year for cobras was 2004 , get your shit straight!!!

  • This cars got 375 H.P,doesnt sound like much but 18 years ago it was just as phenomenal as 640 H.P. in the 09 ZR1 today.

  • It revved up past 8000 rpm? what the hell?

  • i heard the factory redline was there only to protect the belt driven accessories- same with the yamaha SHO V6

  • that shits so fast

  • Lingenfelter ZR-1's make over 650 at the crank,all motor...with even more tuning the output can increase.Trust me,I know...they can do low 10's,even high 9's...again,all motor...wicked cars...

  • A Stock ZR1 will make over 640 at the crank. I hope you mean 650 at the wheels

  • why would it make more at the wheels than the crank?

  • lt5's are wicked

  • haha 0-60 or 22-60?

  • the car has four camshafts in the heads of course the mutha fucker is going to reach 8000 rpm, just like most dohc racing engines.

  • Comment removed

  • You've been hanging out on the honda forums too much my friend. Just because its DOHC does not mean its going to rev sky high. Stroke, stronger bottom end parts and fuel delivery make a much higher impact than 2 or 3 valves versus 4. Thanks for coming out.

  • Yeah your right it doesnt mean is going to rev sky high, i never said every dohc did, but in this case it did.

  • lol @ everyone in denial about a V8 hitting 8K revs.

  • Yeah I don't see why it's so hard to believe...Lotus designed the valvetrain and twin stage intake manifold for this motor--so you get the American torque monster plus the high-revving European top end horsepower design all in one.

  • Its an amazing combination for sure, why don't ALL cars come with an LT5?

NASCAR engines, and alot of drag racing engines hit 8500-9000+ RPM; and guess what? Most of those engines have pushrods!

  • I know someone with this car but it doesnt seem to be this fast while riding shotgun. And he claims to have 480whp which i dont know....

  • Nice video... I too love my ZR-1 =)

  • I think that the tachometer isn't working properly. Otherwise, the engine would be screaming like a NASCAR

  • Funny fact:

The higher rpm pushrod engines are built and raced in Argentina for TC cup.

They still use 6 cylinder ford, chevy, dodge get over 11.000 rpm

  • Pontiac 6OHC 250 ci 4bbl carb got over 230 Hp that was more than a ford 302 v8. You don`t understand that ohc or dohc tecnololgy make smaller engines more eficient and more powerfull than the gigantic lazy pushrod V8S

  • My ford mustang 408 + $5,000.00 = 6200. rpm

    Corvette Lt5 + $0.00 = 7200 rpm

what a diference!! Americans keep on dreaming on pushrods even in the year 2009, that is fifty's technology!!! now you just need 1.6 liter dohc to bit an old lazy pushrod engine.

    1994 BMW M3 3.0 liter= 280HP (DOHC)

    1994 Camaro Lt1 5.7 liter= 275HP (ohv)

  • I like pushrod Chevy trucks and Ford trucks myself.

  • wow are you really comparing an M3 to a camaro. Your an idiot. 2009 zr1 PUSHROD 638 horsepower, and probably still cheaper than that m3 was in 94, your an idiot, what the torque specs there to, and the price. Fucking dumbass, why dont you just mention a mclaren, its just a 3.5 liter naturally aspirated with hell power what an idiot

  • of course you like pushrods because you have all of them in your ass. By the way GM is bankrupted, thanks to the cheap cars they make as you say, read the news ignorant

  • Pushrods are a simple technology, but there is no reason for your hate... a lt1 has something a 94 m3 will never have, Torque. Many people prefer an engine with more torque over higher peak rpm at really high rpm. I personally drive a jdm h22a prelude, I know how low displacement high hp engines drive, I love it personally. My buddy has a 85 carbed 350 camaro, I blow his doors off, have more hp, and get better gas mileage, but his car feels faster. Some people prefer torque is all I'm saying.

  • thats not the fault of GM, rather the idiot fucking consumers who aren't educated about cars and care more about whats new, what looks good, or what has more cupholders. Retards buying Yotas and nissans are what is killing the Big three, not bag engineering.

  • NOBODY GIVES A FUCK!!!! GM BITCH!!!

  • Ya and what can you do to an M3?? Virtually nothing. You can add a turbo port and polish the heads and MAYBE find a cam for it.

you can spend maybe 500 bucks on a LT1 camaro and get it to 300-320 hp. Exhaust, huge cam, forged internals, CNC heads, the works, will cost you around 2k and itll make 400+HP. 2k plus the 4-6k the Camaro cost is gonna be less than the m3 lol.Pushrods outlast and outrun DOHCs ALL DAY.

  • what an ignorant comment, both have advantages and disadvantages you dumbass closed minded redneck.

  • No fucking shit retard. I am glad you can assume someone is a redneck and can magically see through computers or some shit. I own a e30 and a LT1 Fbody, I am fully aware of the advantages and disadvantages. One can run longer than the other but parts cost alot and its a bitch to work on. Ones a breeze to work on and costs nothing but takes a little more maintenance. The DOHC i owned was a piece shit. 140,000PSI pushrods aren't going to fail you...

  • pushrods fail all the time....

  • Great evidence to back that up...just a blatant statement that is made as if its a fact. Shitty pushrods fail all the time. I see more Honda on the side of the road than anything. If you have a shitty ass low PSI weak pushrod like say in a 93 Ford explorer Sure. But who runs it very high. If you build up a car and know shit you would replace the rods. My fbody has 150,000 PSI rods in it, not gonna fail anytime soon lol.

  • A built motor is quite different than stock, my family has many fords with 302s and the pushrods bent, i agree it was a blatant statement, but ive had it happen first hand.

  • Ford doesn't represent all pushrod engines. I am not much of a ford person. Do not like their idea of Induction, DOHC, or most of the Body styling of there cars. Select few maybe.

  • Ford doesn't often use DOHC, Mustangs 05 and newer for example use SOHC 3 valves per cylinder

  • Yeah, the old SHO's had DOHC. It's rare otherwise

  • All cobras 96 and up have a DOHC 4.6L, the GT500 cobras have a DOHC 5.4L

  • Cool, thanks for the info

  • Should mention the DOHC 4.6 is the same engine as the Lincoln Mark 8/Continental/Aviator. The Mercury Marauder has it too. The DOHC 5.4 is the same as the Ford GT's 5.4. I think possibly the Navigator got a N/A version of the 5.4 DOHC but can't remember for sure.

  • none of the ford trucks got a version of THAT 5.4 btw.

  • @FoxBody77 Actually the Navigator did get the 32v 5.4 from 99-04. 05+ has the 3v 5.4.

  • im saying the ford gt's 5.4L lol.

  • Oh, yea you're right about that lol. The GT's is an aluminum block. haha my bad
