this is the worst idea of a backup i heard!!! a backup means you have a BACKUP if your drive FAILS... with this trick, if hard drive fails, all files go bye bye!! sorry but this is BAAAD...
@jdoo2100 This method does not protect against disk failures, but say for instance you accidentally delete a file that you wanted. You can go back and restore it.
but i cant find it anywhere ... my mac was once tiger and its now leopard... and my mac used to be my dads friends and used it 4 5 years... and then erased every thing so it can be mine...
I like this idea, thanks for the video. Being able to return to a previous version of something is useful. I think I would also bring around my external hard drive once in a while and copy the backup disk to this external HD.
what do you meen loose all of your info? If you meen that you get a new Hard Drive or your Hard Drive breaks yes this method would not save your stuff. But if you decided to delete a file and wanted to get it back later, you could go into time machine. But if your hard drive got deleted you'd be in trouble!
Fair enough dude, I have to admit I did consider that basic users might find the Boot Camp wizard easier to follow. I just found it a bit odd to be honest. Anyways, no worries mate.
This solution removes many advantages of Time Machine: You can't get your data back if your HDD crashes or your notebook is stolen. Only one feature remains: You can get back the data you deleted accidentally. But isn't it easier to not empty the trash?
I already partitioned it before I saw this tutorial so I can install Ubuntu.
Then I wanted to uninstall it, so I reformatted the Linux Swap and the Bootcamp partition and tried to delete the partitions with Disk utility.
And now when I open Boot Camp Assistant, it says "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot

Why on earth do you use the Boot Camp utility to partition your drive? Why not just use Disk Utility?
ChridoTech 3 years ago
Because I thought that it would be easier for people to do it this way.

MirekMateju 3 years ago
Yes. But I like emptying my trash. This is just basically to see how time machine works. It's just cool.
macheads101 3 years ago
I empty trash only if I need disk space. :-)
MirekMateju 3 years ago
i used a usb flash drive 4GB as a backup
rubikssolver08 3 years ago
this is a dumb idea. what if you need to fresh install leopard and you get to the part that asks you to migrate your data... you're screwed.
SnowLeopard2008 3 years ago
No, because when you install a New OS or reinstall the OS that you have it asks you what Hardrive to install it to so you won't lose anything.
macheads101 3 years ago
hmm still think it's a dumb idea..
SnowLeopard2008 3 years ago
Whatever.
macheads101 3 years ago
Sweet! I am going to do this when my aunty gets a MacBook.
SUPERSONICPOOP 3 years ago
Cool, I hope you like your new Macbook when you get it.
macheads101 3 years ago
but if your internal, fails your screwed. Cuz both your internal partitions will go.
julianjackson24 3 years ago
Yes. But this is just to have two copies of the stuff on your HD.
macheads101 3 years ago
Nice tutorial :D I already have Windows from BootCamp so I thinck I cant do this..
MertenNor
MertenNor 3 years ago
Ok. Alex too. I think though you could make yet another partition with Disk Utility. But I don't know.

My Boot Camp assistant doesn't work :(

Sorry, the comment was too long, here's the continuation:
Camp Assistant for installing Windows."
What do I do?
Chuck67322 3 years ago
Did you set the other partition back to MS-DOS format? You need to do that.
macheads101 3 years ago
Which one?
Chuck67322 3 years ago
You have to do the same thing that we did at the end of this video to unpartition.
macheads101 3 years ago
Like I said,
I removed the BOOTCAMP partition, and now boot camp assistant is messed up
Chuck67322 3 years ago
Oh you might need to bring it to the apple store then.
macheads101 3 years ago
I don't have AppleCare :(
Chuck67322 3 years ago
Just make an appointment with a Genius.
macheads101 3 years ago

I already have an external hard drive.
I was just hoping that you could help me with the problem, because I wanted to intall Windows.

Oh Ok.
