it all depends on where the noose is placed. Please don't regard me as a freak I researched this because I'm a writer and I like westerns. They actually got this down to a science with this particular type of hanging if you position the rope right most of the time it will snap the neck. Sometimes it doesn't do the job and the victime strangles.

No it doesn't always break your neck. Sometimes it causes the extreme of beheading people. They even said he'd be let down, so it obviously wouldnt cause enough pressure to break his neck. And shows arn't live anyway, there is always a delay incase something happens. So the break in the this was purely for dramatic effect.
