Singers don't want to stay out of the picture for too long because then the public will forget about them. That really didn't make sense to me, but I guess they don't want that to happen.

most of the time its cuz the music industry is very competitive in asian (esp korean, japan and hong kong), a lot of new groups/ singers debut so often that in order to stay on top, artists have to come out with albums in a shorter period of time then they would normally spend on a full album

Thats because the music industry is competitive everywhere, esp in korean, japan and hong kong. so many new faces debut every now and then. In order to stay on top and be remembered, artists have to use less time to produce a new album/song. Hence US artists average about 4 to 5 ish albums for their whole career while J/K/Canto pop star can get up to >7 easily. Hope this help!

@AaronH9111 They release mini-albums because it's cheaper in production, so they can put more money into promotion. Also if they change 'sound', they can see if it works or not with a mini-album, and then adjust a 10-12 track album accordingly.

Mini albums also play a factor in rookie groups, they release mini-albums to measure the general reaction to the specific group without spending too much money.
