When this first came on tv, my bro and I were watching the other channel, he suggested we turned it over to the other side, to see what this stingray was all about, we were hooked, brill.
Does everyone know thatr the guy who did the voice for Phones (Robert Easton) also played Sparks in the original Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea movie. Just noticed he passed away on December 16th (2011) so RIP and thanks for the great voice Characterization. (He also did the voice for Agent X 2 Zero)
Troy was a real a-hole, Phones was cool, but Marina was absolutely tops. (: And poor Atlanta. You just can't compete with a hot mermaid chick that doesn't *TALK*. (:
@draconpost Those aren't fishes! Those are the submarines of the "aquaphibians," a submarine warrior race under the command of King Titan. Geez, are you dumb!....
@bangsmoke well I was raised watching Godzilla and other kaiju, for me it could be anything :D I never watched the show, to be honest I never even heard of it, just saw the intro here
I feel very lucky to have been a kid during the time of Stingray, Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet. What have the poor little sods got now? Grand Theft Auto & Hollyoaks! Gerry for a Knighthood!
Ah, a new ring-tone. That'll piss 'em off. I''ve had so much fun revisiting the shows I watched as a child. Remember the good old days when your father came home drunk and kicked you around the house and everyone laughed because it was quite normal. The next day you went to school and the teachers hit you with thick leather straps. Oh, Manchester so much to answer for. At least kids had good tv shows in those days, ha-ha.
As kids TV programs go, they don't come much better than this as far as intros are concerned, this is the best of the lot! - it still captivates me after 40 years. :-)
@Bevoin1970 Well, I'm 51 and I'm still captivated, too, lol. I still reckon that Stingray was better than Thunderbirds but I don't know why. Maybe because I fell in love with Marina when I was only 5 years old? Lol!
@Turrican60 I myself wouldn't go so far as to say better, I loved both equally, they were different to each other but overall from the same stable so to speak. I spotted the Puppet strings, but it never bothered me, it was the story, the monsters, the machines that captivated me, oh and a fantastic intro too. Im 50 now, but I could still happily sit and watch these all over again, even though we have so much modern technology around us, some things are just priceless. Gerry Anderson is a Legend.
Anyone else think Gerry Anderson should be Knighted? Let's face it, the man gave us, so many TV series... Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, UFO, Space Precinct, Terrahawks, Space 1999 etc...........
@lincsposter i know sorry i realised as i clicked post and tried deleting it, god i hate it when i think someone awesome is american and hes british, im british u see.
@lincsposter Oh Hell Yeah ! A Knighthood is long over due for Gerry Anderson ! The guy changed the way we looked at Televison, he created shows and stories that brought out the kid in all of us ! And new generations will continue to embrace his creations ! Thats what i did when i first saw Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and Stingray back in the early 90's ! And Terrahawks which i remember watching first time round in the early 80's :)
The guy who played the action stations bongos must have been knackered as they were always going to action stations. Also it must have been a bummer trying to get your car in the garage with it going up and down like a fiddlers elbow,
And finally agent X was not much of a secret agent was he as the silver skin is a bit of a give away right from the out set and he had to convert half his house before he could even just say hello to the boss.
I always thought those two low-flying jets were the best bit of the intro sequence - they looked kick-ass and were followed immediately by classic Anderson random industrial structures blowing up. Looovely! :)
I've got a fuckin good orchestral version of this, it's much better than this, but it's on an old tape and I've gotta get an old tape recorder and onto my laptop somehow, then upload it onto Youtube.
Despite the fact I was born just less than 30 years after this was first aired, even I want to come back for some nostalgia from when my parents first showed it to me XD
Just watching these trailers brings back so many memories, what "fab" ! productions Jerry A produced .As for the the opening sequence of Stringray .the "anything can happen in the next1/2 hour " has stuckin my brain for the next 40 Years!!!
WE did not need direct on screen blood & gore , we had imagination then , nor did we need scripts that had F....ck bang ..f..ck you as there major script content .
A bit of kids innocence seems to have been thrown out of life at their loss !!
This show has an incredibly driving, dynamic theme song (which I have on several CDs) but it's paired with the absolutely lamest-looking visuals possible.
@hebneh Come on now this was the early 60's. The editors did a great job matching the music with the visuals. Look the opening sequence for UFO. The theme tune also written by Barry Gray.
@ewaf88 I was a kid at the time these "Supermarionation" shows were being shown in the '60s, and I thought they were extremely lame at that time. So unfortunately I am still not impressed by them today either, in the 21st century.
While the British were introducing American kids to cool action shows,American tv producers were putting out crap like the Munsters,The Monkees,The Beverly Hilbillies and Gilligan's Island
@NoIDidunt10 What are you on about ? The Monkees is great and so are the Hillbillies ; the Munsters was a copy of the Addams Family but still good fun and The Man From Uncle was also great.
my childs soul is having a cartoon gasm , i loved how the buildings went underground for safety , forgot all about this , except the sinking buildings and the sub , i think i even had the sub as a toy
It was last year that in Doctor Who they referenced both Stingray and Thunderbirds in the episode "The Lodger" where the Doctor says to the time ship's Avatar he is "Captain Troy Handsome of International Rescue,".
@Autonova To be honest I came here looking for a job with the World Aquanaut Security Patrol' and was told there's a recession on. Don't blame me if a fleet of Titan's Terror Fish come down the Thames unapposed.
Marineville must have had a band of conga drummers on call 24/7 to play at the sign of an alert.
P.S.: My Dad called this show "Stinkray" and would sing "Stinkray, Stinkray!".
