  • somee rubbish shit

  • love this song and movie :)

  • YT also has the original 1933 version of this number from the film "Stage Mother." . A must see:

  • cool]

  • I used to watch this as a kid... took me several viewings to realize "smart" meant "well-dressed", not "intelligent"

  • yo this is gay

  • @mrcoolsuper1 I miss the days when "gay" meant happiness

  • @mrcoolsuper1 THEN WHY ARE YOU WATCHING THIS?!?!?!?!?!

  • I like 2:10 looks classy for me

i also like this one so i could be stylish in funerals too 2:22

i want this when i get married! 2:30

  • THIS is the stuff I'm raising my kids with!

  • "And she also is smaaaaaaart!"

  • beach girl and pearl girl was wobbling like crazy

  • who's the man singing? i can not recognize him ... :)

  • When I first saw this I thought the women were statues so when they all walked out I freaked out. Albeit I was like 8...

  • Its a sad day when you search Beautiful Girl and Sean Kingston comes up..

  • I actually realllly like the outfit at 1:43.

  • @surfandsun94 I love the shoes

  • you'd never DREAM the things you could hide within these sleeves lol

  • Does anyone know if Jimmy Thompson was gay?

  • The point of this montage was to show the plethora of musicals that came out once sound became a reality.

The public eventually overdosed on them and then few of them were made until "42nd Street."

  • i really, really want the dress at 1.37!!

  • 1:17

    sure... it's SO simple.... :)

  • r these 50s?

  • I know these outfits were supposed to be a bit of a joke, but I'd wear the tweed suit.

  • hahaha Anita at :18!

  • "And she also is smart."

Thank goodness that line is in there.

  • What year was this movie made in?

  • @altsoccer00 - Shot 1951, released 1952.

  • I must have seen this a hundred times, and I just realized that Cosmo et al. are talking right next to the camera while shooting. Would the microphones be somewhere else, or have I discovered a blooper?

  • Comment removed

  • @ZeY00T00b The microphones are not next to the camera of course

  • 1:23 was ugly xD

  • 1:17 - 2:27 is so pointless...

  • @panicked94 You must be a guy. I understand :) its a chick scene.

  • is he wearing lipstick 0:03 to 0:06??

  • the one that r talking about........is the onlyone thats a red head

  • @uninsomnia89 Oh Fuck off

  • @Blacky98981 dont fuck me

  • @uninsomnia89 But this scene is a parody of 1930's style musicals, it isn't a serious representation of the films attitude to women.

Some would argue that many of today's films are far more sexist than older films. In any case, you should re-watch the scene as a parody.

  • @GolfTheMagicRabbit yeah,I hate today´s films too, haha

  • @uninsomnia89 well then you just don't like films. stop watching them then, listen to music for instance. :)

  • I wish i could sing like that :')

    Pure talent . . .

  • Who could hate the greatest classic movie in the whole entire world!!??

    You 7 haters!?!

I love this song! and I'm doing Singin' In The Rain for my musical this year in my school!! How I love This!!! <3

  • does anybody know where i can get some of these dresses online????

  • This must be the father of Mickey Jagger!!!

  • The line "and you're over sweet sixteen" is made creeper by the baby blue suit, pimp cane, and hat at a jaunty angle

  • @ihearttheplanet Still not as creepy as an old man in Gigi singing, "Thank heaven for little girls..."

  • @ihearttheplanet Hey, that's okay; we all know that Jimmy Thompson was probably gay in "real life."

Whatever happened to him? He only made eight films.

  • @ihearttheplanet and pedo-smile?

  • @mjpointeshoe13 all in all massive creeper

  • @ihearttheplanet preach it !

  • i think they should've used the song "A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody"

  • i hope i don't offend anyone when i say: if i had a boudoir to lounge in, i certainly wouldn't wear those pajamas!

  • @BlueFireTigerLion lol while the pajamas are pretty i don't think they are practical for lounging in.

  • @hotpink910 true, true

  • I like it!

  • i love their dresses their beautiful

  • I love the music thats playing while he's talking...it gives me a great feeling inside oh and Rito Moreno is still alive as of 12/22/2010

  • Ah, the 1950's version of MTV's music video. Gotta love it! :D

  • Think about your marriage and get a trusted women lushfmlk.info

  • I totally wanna "Knock 'em dead a' dinnah"! Imma go buy me a fringy dress now!

  • @Cafeblanx Yea dat's epic... hope someone upload it coz i can't seem to find it too:(

  • 2:12 does that not look like Jack Lemon (aka Daphne) in Some Like it Hot?

  • You can like old music better than the modern music, you have all the right too, but saying that music today is stupid and all about sex and girls, it makes you a fool (or fools, you that agreed with the comment). There is good music and artists, today and yesterday. Mentalities changes as so tastes too. And I'm sorry to say but there are also a lot of old songs that talk about the same sex and girls, the message was just delivered differently. The video here is it or not about girls?

  • @auana3 I agree with you. There are differences between old music and new music; well, I prefer old as it's quite obvious that you've a great lot more risk to be accused for plagiarism today than in eg. the 50's. That's because lots of rythms and riffs are used. But new music can also be original. And the texts are just as great.

  • @auana3 Yes, But the girls here are at least presented at bit more modestly. Also, he sings, "And she also is smart." Not too much of that at least on the radio nowadays. It's still there, though. you just have to look harder.

  • That was stupendous! ;)

  • I've seen this movie many times but it just occurred to me today that this sequence makes no sense!

In the scenes just after it they're struggling to master adding sound to the Dueling Cavalier (including hiding giant microphones in various hilarious ways), yet this sequence (from another movie being produced, apparently) is clearly meant to be with sound and they say "this'll start a new trend in musical pictures!"

  • I have no idea what's up with me, but I am in absolute love with both those jackets. Maybe a little updating-faux fur, diff. fabric-but the base of it is totally awesome!

  • 1:26 It reminds me of Cruella de Vil from Walt Disney's "101 Dalmatians".

  • "Let me call a preacher! "

    LOL

  • is there a video that shows the scene when they are filming a movie with the girl with the funny voice and it doesnt go well???? let me know

  • I think the only good looking outfit they showed was the bathing suit, but it was 1927 and I guess monkey fur was in 0.0

  • We watched this in Careers and tried to decide which of the fashion-show girls was doing the best at staying still.

  • on 2:45 the girl in blue behind the singer almost fell lol

  • Originally, it was Bing Crosby who sang it in a movie. I like Would You better.

  • Test

  • Best Movie!

  • what is the name of the singer?

  • I love that bathing suit :D

  • you have to love how the hat band matches his tie....OLD SCHOOL shit there. Rock something like that at the Kentucky Derby

  • who sang the song

  • lol, have u noticed tht all the girls here hav great figures? lol

  • Only 16? Holy statutory!

  • @ddrddrddrddr Haha, it's 'over' sweet sixteen!

  • i luv the black one and i also LUV the white one

  • So cute and classy.

  • Wheres the whole beginning! The whole wild and crazy psychedelic intro! =[ Awe!

  • i love this song :) the film is amazing

  • @dagmann1 I think the song means "smart" as in "a smart dresser," not as a synonym for "intelligent." The rest of the song is purposefully ridiculous--trimmed with monkey fur!--and nowhere else is the importance of intelligence in women mentioned, so I think they're purposefully joking around with the word "smart."

  • yeah this was back in the good ol' days when singers actually needed to be able to sing

  • luv the 'she's stylish, sheik, and also is smart' unfortunately most guys i know dont think about the smart part

  • wow now THATS alot of fringe

  • AWESOME - Thanks for posting!! Best Musical EVER.

btw, does anyone know where this sequence was filmed? Guessing at the MGM lot in Culver City (Sony Studios).

  • who is the amazingly beautiful guy..i would have loved to be near him always!!!

  • is the girl sitting down with the bow in her hair Anita Moreno from west side story

  • Yes.

  • @debdoida

this girl is better in west side story

  • @debdoida That would be RITA Moreno. Her character in the movie was ANITA.

  • @debdoida oo i knew it!

  • @audreygivenchy

yes but her name is Rita Moreno, Anita was the character's name from West Side Story.

  • @audreygivenchy

I think you mean Rita Moreno. The character she played was named Anita.

  • @avantgarde1226 : the character rita moreno played was named zelda, not anita. zelda was patterned on clara bow..!

  • @audreygivenchy It's RITA Moreno.

  • @audreygivenchy : her name is rita moreno!

  • @audreygivenchy Yes, but the actresses name is Rita Moreno. Her character in West Side Story is named Anita

  • @audreygivenchy Do you mean "Rita" Moreno?

  • @audreygivenchy Rita Moreno. Goegeous, isn't she?

  • voor lucienne

  • The psychedelic thing that happens right before this song I fucking hate with a passion.

But this song is so awesome it immediately makes up for it.

  • Is it just me, or does the woman in tweed with the pearls look like she could take the place of one of the guys in Some Like It Hot? Look, she even has her suitcases all ready for the bus haha

  • "You'd never guess what loud applause this cunning hat receives." Lol

I love love love this movie! =)

  • one of the girls in this video looks like a chimp. Shame. Love this film/song though!

  • So where can I get a "cloak trimmed with monkey fur, to lend a dash of drama?"

I love this movie. Instant classic!

  • @radguurl You kiddin'? PETA would be waiting outside the store ready to maul you.

  • @radguurl it's timeless. you'd've never guessed it was made in the 50's.

  • if only that were true today! man I miss this

  • I like old music better than the modern music. It's really jazzy and fancy . but today music bout sex and girls body. it's so stupiid.

  • I agree with you about the older music! Older movies like Philadelphia Story and Singing In The Rain can't be beat!

  • especially Annie, Annie get you gun And the sound of music =D

  • oh god I can't stand Annie get your gun. That first song almost made me snap the dvd in half. I a so glad that Judy got sick and got out of doing that atrociuos film. the only good thing it gave us was "anything you can do"

  • lololz. XD I liked it. =) I think the girl was awsome. =)

  • @SXYEmmaUK yea your right...its sad

  • @SXYEmmaUK, how is this son not about "sex and girls body"?

  • @SXYEmmaUK Its still about sex and a girls body, but its done with class

  • @ozzy31497 exactly. At lease it doesn't have a lot of exploit. Like, Katy Perry's music video, California girls...I just don't get that video. It's ridiculous and disturbing. Well in my point of view & perspective, I'd rather and preferably stick to old music. Thank God for Gene Kelly and Judy Garland. No hard feelings for those ppl who are a modern music lover. It was just an opinion.

  • @SXYEmmaUK

    Amen to that

  • @SXYEmmaUK you being sarcastic right?

  • @SXYEmmaUK Lots of songs were about sex and girls back then; they were just a lot better at being subtle about it.

  • how can they stay so still ion those poses? especially the one with the umbrella

  • for lounging in your boudoir, this simple, plain pajama....

what ever happened to boudoirs? *sigh*

  • And simple, plain pajamas.

  • i absolutely love this movie!

  • does anyone know the name of the man singing?

  • It cracks me when he says "black is best when your in court, the judge will be impressed.

  • it cracks me up when he sings "and you're over sweet sixteen" i guess that was the most important thing about a girl. haha.

  • It's his way of saying she's legal...

  • LOL.

  • i love jimmy thompson!! did he do anything else besides this and brigadoon?

  • Notice at 22 secs a very young Rita Moreno (referred to a Zelda). Originally there was a sub plot about her character that was cut from the final print of the movie.

  • @brit1955 She appears in the film at like 2 or 3 other times though.

And she's name-dropped more than that.

  • I love the part where he sings " and your over sweet sixteen."

all guys in my opinion need to say this same thing and know it!

  • thank you.

  • good song good voice

  • Jimmie Thompson

  • They asked Al Pacino what his favorite movie was, he picked this one. In an interview with Woody Allen, the interviewer asked him about his body of work, and he said "They can't all be Singin' In The Rain".

  • i just love this movie!!!!! <3

  • a boudoir is a woman's bedroom :)

  • WWOWW! Who sings this

  • This guy is in the film for just this scene, does zero acting, and sings a pretty goofy song, and yet he left an indelible impression on me just because his voice is so damn good. I mean the end of this song is just ridiculous.

  • The voice, is "passable," but not really great. People are so starved today for good entertainment that it seems standards may have been relaxed somewhat. But it's not the public's fault so much, but the industry's failure to maintain those standards.

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The vocalist was indeed Gene Kelly's protege at the studio, Jimmy Thompson. Unfortunately, he was never able to carve out a career for himself...the idea of this number was to satirize how early "talkie" production numbers usually turned into a "fashion show" (and some of them were more exaggerated than this). The song is still great!

  • Yes, and did anyone notice the rather "fay" tone to his delivery? Rather in keeping with certain "males" in the fashion industry, if you catch my drift. Again part of the parody.

  • lol those dresses wore funny

  • I think the girl on the right at the very start of this clip is Gene Kelly's future wife.

  • THIS VIDEO IS RAD.

  • I AM IN THIS MUSICAL!!!!!

  • I thought it was a 1920s version of an advertisement! Poor models~!!

  • would anyone want to post the full movie onto youtube? please?

  • so amazing@ !

  • YT has the original 1933 version of the song Beautiful Girl from the film "Stage Mother." Music is nearly identical tho the choreography is completely different.

The original is a masterpiece of black/white cinematography.
