Uh...have you people ever heard this song before? She's pretty much known for the raspy voice. She had vocal nodules removed in the 70's and during recovery caused further damage. Her voice took on the raspy sound. This song has always sounded "rough", I believe that's part of why she was so popular in the 80's.

@Gazzz87 I believe it's a result of poor singing technique when she was younger. When I first listened to her sing this song in her original video, I remember cringing (as much as I love the song!) at the sound of her basically 'screaming/yelling' out the notes straining her vocal folds and thinking how awfully messed up she's gonna make her voice.
