Well, he wrote it prior to 1980, so he was probably just thinking about how he wanted to keep all those he loved safe if you take the literal meaning... I do love this song. It came out during my chaotic teenage years and I've always loved it. He was the father I wish I had... at least until I fell in love with him! :)
uhhhhhhm, I guess we all know where the person who wrote that awful TLC song got their idea from.
This is beautiful though.
